SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Summit League will hold its inaugural Fan Fest during the first two days of its 2017 Basketball Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. The fan event runs 10 a.m.-9 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday (March 4-5) at the Sioux Falls Arena. Admission is free of charge and attendees do not need a game ticket for admission.

"With the inaugural Fan Fest, we are excited to bring yet another element to an already widely-successful Summit League Basketball Championships experience," said Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple. "Fans of all ages, whether attending games or not, can participate in the excitement of March Madness at this festival. Regardless of rooting interest or basketball skill level, there will be plenty of fun activities and entertainment for everyone."

Children and adults of all ages can test their skills, pose for photo ops, and be a part of team pep rallies throughout each day. Exclusive Summit League Basketball Championships merchandise will also be available for purchase at the Fan Fest.

Fans can compete at basketball-related games, such as Pop-A-Shot, and test their skills at shooting contest stations, including a game where participants see how many three-pointers they can make in 30 seconds. Younger fans (ages five and under) can shoot baskets on hoops their size, engage in sign making and coloring and enjoy inflatable games in the Kids Zone.

There are several photo opportunities throughout Fan Fest that will give fans an up-close look at the true championship experience. Photos with the official Summit League Championship trophy and replicating celebratory net cutting are part of the ways to look like a champion. Fans may also take their photos with their favorite team's jersey and mascot.

Team pep rallies featuring bands, cheer and dance squads, are scheduled throughout Fan Fest. Each competing team will have its band, cheer and dance teams, and mascot make an appearance prior to their game. Mascots will be available for photos for a limited time during the pep rallies.

This should be a good addition, plus it will be nice to not have to battle Home Show attendees for parking on Saturday and Sunday.

Not that it will bring same crowd as the Home Show but the Golf Expo will be in convention center this weekend.

All the way through Monday games. ESPN comes in for the finals.

The summit league needs to book the convention center. imagine having the room for all the schools, but mainly the Dakota schools right there. having food and drinks and have the alumni asc host it. the Sheraton is nice, but way to small. I like the idea about the fan fest thing. We ahre bringing a 3 and 5 year old for most of the weekend so having things to do between sessions and a change of pace will be great. weather will be nice too. so we might take them to the park for some fresh air and away from the crowds for a bit to enjoy the weather.

I think this will be much smaller then the home show and I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Don't be shy about checking out the golf expo with your kids. There are plenty of kid friendly things for them to do there. Including a big blow-up dinosaur that kids can hit oversized golf balls into using oversized clubs. It will cost you $5 to get in but your kids are free.

Becoming a TV fan, thank you very much. Getting to the point of fighting crowds and parking are becoming a challenge. In the 1980's loved taking time off and heading up to Sioux Falls for the holiday NCC tourney. It was a great time. The SLT looks to be a much better tourney and this fan feast is something new. Those attending enjoy.

Yeah, it's actually a pretty cool event. A lot of giveaways from golf courses, a really good discount golf equipment/apparel area by Austad's, a bunch of club reps there letting you try the newest clubs, driving/chipping/putting contests.

I swear to crap if I catch any SDSU fans participating in this, you'll hear a good piece of my mind. Until SDSU wins the tournament, that stuff is for USD fans!
