  • Best Recruiting Class

A lot has been discussed about the success of recruiting in the past. As this season has progressed, It appears that the entering class of 2013 might be one of the best ever. Those who have been at SDSU since 2013 includes:

    OFFENSE
Jake Wieneke (will play on Sundays)
Dallas Goedert (from walkon to Sunday player)
Jacob Ohnesorge (will be 4 year starter and all conference player)
Charlie Harmon (3 year starter and likely all conference player)
Kane Louscher ( 3 year starter who has become an excellent blocker)
Brady Mengarelli (3 year starter with great quickness and durability)

    DEFENSE
Kellen Soulek (3 year starter who keeps improving and making a big impact this year)
Cole Langer (4 year starter who played as a true freshmen)
Jessie Bobbit (3 year starter who played as a true freshmen)
Chris Balster (from walk on to impact starter who tackles well)
Nick Farina (multi year starter who had big interceptions during career)

    SPECIAL TEAMS
Thayer Trenhaile (reliable 4 year starter)

I'm sure there are others to add from this entering class that I have not included. Fortunately only 3 of these players are seniors as they didn't redshirt.

You know what would really cement them as the best class ever? A natty. Honestly, I think this team has what it takes to do it, either this year or next year, led by many of these guys.

Tiano is another one in that class. He went to Army but came to SDSU a few years later.

Amazing that with how great that class was, I still count 22 guys from the recruiting class post that have either limited contributions or are no longer part of the program.

Just goes to show how much of a crapshoot recruiting can be.

TV's blog said we were his only DI offer (though had a walk-on offer from the Gophers), which is shocking to me. Oh well, we were Zach Zenner's only DI offer and he turned out okay.

No doubt a very talented group. We hope this the start of many more to come.
