Jacks lose the rubber game 10-9. Scored a couple runs in the 9th and had 2 men on but couldnt tie it up.

You can't beat a good team, like Omaha, with 5 errors. We just put them out in front, and couldn't make it back from there. Two teams are now tied for second. Both of us have to play ORU at home in the next few weeks...that could determine a lot. We sure do want to get at least a second seed.

The three game home stand against Western Illinois did not go well. Friday April 29, Jacks lost 1-5. Yesterday April 30, Jacks won 6-3 and today the Jacks got beat by the Neck 1-3. Jacks are 11-10 in SL and 17-26 for season. Jacks had a 1-0 lead going to the 8th and gave up 3 runs which they never recovered from.

Here is GoJacks.com official explanation about what happened today:

Jackrabbit starter Ryan Froom made that lead stand up through seven innings. The junior right-hander extended his scoreless innings streak to 10 before exiting after allowing an infield single to Roman Visintine to lead off the eighth. Reliever Greg Casper retired the first man he faced, but walked the next two batters to load the bases.

Chris Halbur then entered to pitch and surrendered the tying run on a successful squeeze bunt by Nick Schrader. The Jackrabbits appeared on the verge of escaping the inning with a tie, but Newt Johnson's throw in the dirt after a grounder off the bat of Conner Currier allowed the go-ahead run to score and Mark Garton followed with a single left that plated the third run of the frame.

Western Illinois reliever Nate Westfahl retired the last eight batters he faced over his four-inning stint of one-hit baseball to earn his first victory of the season. He struck out four and walked one. Sturchio recorded a pair of strikeouts and walked one in five innings.

Froom struck out six, walked two and scattered five hits over seven-plus innings in finishing with a no-decision.

Visintine tallied three of Western Illinois' seven hits, including a pair of doubles.

SDSU managed only three hits in the game, including a double by Newt Johnson. Luke Ringhofer singled in the first inning, extending his streak of reaching base safely by either a hit or a walk to 35 games.

The Jackrabbits continue their homestand with a three-game series May 6-8 against Fort Wayne. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 3 p.m.

ILLINOIS 3, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 1

Lost 10-8 yesterday to Oral Roberts and today lose 7-6 after getting down 7-0. Scored 1 in the bottom of the 7th and 8th and 4 in the bot of 9. Luckily, Western got beat today and NDSU lost a double header to last place IPFW, who has won 5 in a row including beating Purdue. IPFW is now tied for last with the bison. We are 1 game ahead of Western and 2 ahead of IPFW and NDSU. It is going to be a battle for the last 2 spots in the conference tourney.

Does any one want to win SL? Lots of ups and downs going on. Let's hope Jack put it together.

ORU choked in Fargo, but have been consistent else where.

This is why I don't feel sorry for us dominating ORU (continuously the baseball champion) and NDSU (T&F), in basketball, because we practically host the SLT every year, or even Denver (golf, etc.).

Maybe they should just change it to whoever wins the season before gets to host, it'd still be in Sioux Falls or even Frost every year, just like the other sports that are dominated by a particular school every year, and are able to host the Championship event. Except they'd lose all the money they get from a bid process, but it'd be conceptually fair. Try running that idea past Doupal.

Dominate teams Dominate..... period. I get tired of schools whining about losing to superior teams instead of actually doing something about it and coming up with a team that can wrest the Championship away from the dominate school once in awhile.....JMO

Seriously this has not been a good year for SDSU baseball, at times very encouraging only to follow with a let down such as this past week end with ORU. We just need to find a way to beat them.

                      Re: big games ahead

Jacks lose game 3 of the series 5-2. So the standings as we head into the final weekend at Fargo is:

                      ORU 21-6
                      Omaha 16-11
                      SDSU 12-15
                      WIll 11-16
                      IPFW 11-16
                      NDSU 10-17

ORU plays Omaha, SDSU plays NDSU and Western plays IPFW on the final weekend. Everyone is still alive for one of the 4 spots in the conference tourney. Obviously, ORU and Omaha has already clinched.

                        Re: big games ahead

Jacks have to win at least one of the three in NDSU to be guaranteed to go to Tulsa. If we we win just one and either Western Illinois or Ft. Wayne sweeps in their three-game series, the winner would wind up #3 seed, and we would be #4. If they split 2-1 either way, we would be third if Ft. Wayne wins 2, or fourth if Western Illinois wins 2 (we have the head-to-head with IPFW, while WIU has it. I'm not going to even look at what happens if we lose all 3 to the Bison...too painful to think about it. We have had a very inconsistent season unfortunately. And besides, we are going to sweep the Bison!!

                          Re: big games ahead

Well, the Jacks got a little confidence booster today, as they took down Minnesota (who currently leads the Big 10) with a squeeze bunt that won the game in the 10th inning. The Jacks led the game when Minnesota scored two runs in the top of the ninth to go ahead 6-5. The Jacks answered with a run in the bottom of the ninth. Ethan Kenkel held the Gophers in the 10th, and then in the bottom, Phil Velez singled, and advanced to third on two wild pitches. Zach Holt came into pintch hit, and with two strikes, laid down a perfect squeeze bunt scoring Velez and ending the game.

While both teams use pitchers for short stints from their secondary roster, the Gophers brought in one of their better relievers to close things out. His two wild pitches in the 10th set up the Jackrabbit win.
