Zimmer might want to rethink his prediction yesterday during his weekly chat that Fort Wayne would be the Summit men's team that doesn't make it to Sioux Falls. Especially since they were ranked 25th in this week's mid-major poll.

Zimmer might want to rethink his prediction yesterday during his weekly chat that Fort Wayne would be the Summit men's team that doesn't make it to Sioux Falls. Especially since they were ranked 25th in this week's mid-major poll.

I saw that also and wondered if it was a typo. Either he meant IUPUI or he really has not been looking around the league much (at all?). FW was 12-4 yesterday and now looks like a sure top-4 team. They stuck it to the Coyotes early and did not look back.

The league is fairly well bunched up with a lot of at least halfway-decent teams, even towards the "bottom" of the league. On paper and in the computer rankings, SDSU is the clear favorite, but it is not always easy to translate that into on-the-court success, as SDSU's struggles with Denver and WIU at home certainly showed.

I think mid-season injuries and how teams can respond/overcome them will have a huge influence this year on which team doesn't make the trip to Sioux Falls, especially on the men's side. It's going to be a test of endurance and resilience for Summit League teams this year. I'm not sure you can pick one men's team out and say "that one's not going to be in Sioux Falls" after the first week of league play. Not this year.
