  • Daschle Dialogues

My wife and I attended the first of the Daschle Dialogues held Wednesday at the Larson Memorial Concert Hall in the Performing Arts Center. Senators Tom Daschle (SDSU '69) and Trent Lott with Moderator Chuck Raasch (SDSU '76), talked about "How Much Partisanship is Too Much?". It was a first-rate program, something one would customarily see from Harvard, Stanford etc. on C-Span. It will be broadcast on SD Public TV 11/9/14 at 2:00 PM. C-Span was there too so it will appear on C-Span at some time in the near future.

Senators Lott and Daschle told the capacity crowd of about 1,000, how they had to work together during the time each other was Majority Leader in the Senate and for the period during which they shared leadership duties.

Raasch is an SDSU journalism grad and a Castlewood native now serving as the Washington DC correspondent for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper. He was long-time national correspondent and political columnist for Gannett in DC (USA Today; Argus Leader is also a Gannett paper). Chuck had the right touch as Moderator which is important for such an event which was not a debate but, as the event was advertised, a dialogue.

Watch the rebroadcast -- it was very entertaining, educational and thought-provoking.
