and here's the link to his roster page: http://nationals.mlb.com/team/player...='ALL'
There's a link to a video of Blake's first major-league strikeout...the color commentary guy says "...a pretty nasty slider with a little hair on it...."

Gave up two singles, then struck out the stud Giancarlo Stanton, then gave up passed ball and walked a guy. Bases loaded, one out. Dang.

Then struck out uber pinch hitter Dobbs with a nasty tailing two-seamer that Nats' announcers were wowing about. Bases loaded, two outs.

Then finishes inning with no runs with a grounder to first. Nice recovery for Treninen.

Layne Somsen won his first game for Dayton last night and has now struck out 14 batters in 6 2/3 innnings while giving up just four hits, a walk, and no runs. That means that 14 of the 20 outs he has gotten in six appearances have been strikeouts.

Blake Treinen pitching middle relief again for Nats tonight. Struck out two but also gave up two RBI singles in a 7-0 game.

Have the game on TV. Cards 8, Nationals 0 now, top of the eighth. Treinen's thrown 52 pitches so far. His teammates are not giving him much help...just watched two errors.

Looks like the crowd (a thin one) is freezing. Lots of winter coats and hats.

Treinen gave up a few hits tonight but kept the damage to a minimum. Nats played like crap tonight.

Line: 2 2/3 inning, 6 hit, 1 ER, 3 strikeout, 1 walk. His E.R.A. is now 1.35. He looked unhittable at time, but the Nats' announcers pointed out, correctly, that success at the ML level will be contingent on him developing and refining something other than a sinking fastball. He threw a couple nice sliders tonight but the Cardinals started sitting on his fastball. My gues is he might be sent back down tonight.

Major League hitters will hit his sinker hard when he can't command a second pitch. He's got a chance to be really good if he can develop a slider hitters have to respect. It's probably best if he goes down and is able to work on his slider.

Nice to see Layne dominating at Low-A. I thought he deserved to start at Bakersfield. He was really good in Billings last year.

Yes he threw the two seam ball frequently, as called by the catcher. He does have a high graded slider that works well, but only works when the catcher calls for it. Still needs to work on His change up. Your right on the move to triple A would help refine his command on secondary pitches. He's proved he has the tools , just has to perfect his trade.
