    Re: Layne Somsen's future

A friend is a huge Reds' fan and follows the team and its minors passionately. He says that the Reds are loaded with arms, but always operate under the theory that you can never have too many. Apparently former Major Leaguer Mario Soto is their pitching guru and has quite a reputation inside the organization as a developer of young pitchers.

Hell yeah! A Jackrabbit in the Reds organization. Heres to hoping he comes to Billings.

Layne's first stop will indeed be Billings, MontanaRabbit.

That's awesome. He's probably gonna be the 'old guy' on the team.

Certainly one of the more "mature" players. Not the old guy however.

Mustangs opening day roster. First game is Thursday in Billings. The field is only five years old and is phenomenal. If anyone is traveling out west this summer I recommend trying to catch a game. Nothing beats baseball and a cold beer in the summer.

One guy on the team older than Layne, so I guess he technically isn't the 'old guy'.

Mustangs won 7-1 in their opener last night. Layne did not pitch. Play in town again tonight and thinking about going. Hopefully Layne makes an appearance.

Shucks that's just a short drive. You should have there waving an SDSU pennant.

                            Re: Layne Somsen's future

Layne picked up a win in relief last night. He did however surrender his first runs of the year (without allowing a hit).

                            Last night: 1 2/3 IP 0 H 2 R 1 ER 2 BB 3 SO

                            Season: 1-0 6 2/3 IP 1 H 2 R 1 ER 4 BB 6 SO 1.35 ERA

Great start to Layne's professional career. If he keeps pitching this way he may not be in Billings long.

                              Layne pitched again last night.

                              His line: 2 1/3 IP 6 H 1 R 0 ER 0 BB 4 SO

He came in to get the last out of a nine run third inning. The run he gave up was unearned, and his ERA sits at 0.82. In five appearances, he has given up 5 runs with only 1 run being earned.

Must have "scattered" the 6 hits nicely.
