I wouldn't be surprised if he was drafted today due to the bonus cap rules in the first 10 rounds. Toronto would be a team I'd watch

TV's twitter: Layne Somsen picked in the 22nd round by the Cincinnati Reds...first SDSU player FROM South Dakota to get drafted. Congrats to Layne -- well-deserved recognition of his hard work, perseverance and talent. Go Layne, go Jacks!

I'm guessing he will be handled similar to Treinen. After signing get sent to advanced rookie ball in Billings MT. Depending on how he handles probably end up in Dayton of the Mid-West League. Probably a reliever as well

Concur. Very happy for Layne. Heading to his uncle's wedding reception tonight. Plan to shake his hand.

Dunham's and Royal Sports will have to load up on the Reds gear

                          Re: Layne Somsen's future

The Reds' farm system is generally ranked right in the middle of MLB, with pitching ahead of offense. Good nws for Layne is that most of the most Show-ready prospects are pitchers, so they'll likely be on the big club by the time he gets out of rookie ball.

Congratulations for sure. I spoke to someone close to Layne and it seems like he has a quiet confidence that if he could just get into the farm system he feels like he can progress and move up through the system. Good luck to this young man.

Couldn't be happier for Layne! He had a rough go getting to and through Tommy John's surgery, and then dealt a tough hand this year with some great performances by necessary hitting not there for him on a number of occasions. Congrat's 76Rabbit and family!!!
