    Re: Layne Somsen's future

Well obviously the higher the better. What we're hearing is the Reds brought in many players from outside the organization this year. Makes it harder to move up as there are less places to move. Many players are repeating the level they were at last year so any move up is a positive. There are very few on the Dayton roster that weren't there last year too.

I wasn't sure which was higher.

Out of his hands. All he can do is pitch. If he puts up numbers like last year he will move up. At least he's not back in Billings. Repeating a year or rookie ball is not a good thing usually.

For those interested, link the Dragons roster. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats...=true&sid=t459

Layne isn't listed so not sure if this is last years roster or just a partial for 2014. Many players on this roster were in Billings last year.

Still last year's roster. Lively will be in Bako to start the season.

I gotta imagine Ervin won't be in Dayton again either. He was in Billings for a short time at the beginning of last year. Dude can rake.

                Re: Layne Somsen's future

Layne struck out the side and gave up one hit in one inning of work in his debut at Dayton last week.

                  Re: Layne Somsen's future

Came in with bases loaded and no outs. Sounds familiar from last year. Nerves got the first batter he faced a walk but then he struck out 3 straight batters looking. Coming as close to SD as the Dragons get this weekend. Burlington Bees 11th, 12th, 13th. Road trip.

So far this season, Somsen has 8.2 IP in 6 appearances, and has posted a 0.00 ERA while striking out 15 batters with only 1 walk. Word is that he will remain in a relief role, and are already projecting him as a closer. It will be interesting to see how this season progresses for him.

Those are some insane numbers, he keeps pitching like that and it shouldn't take long before he gets a promotion.

Layne has been promoted to the Bakersfield (CA) Blaze. The High-A Professional Affiliate of the Reds.

That's good news. Should have started there IMO.

Great baseball news. It gets hotter than H-E-Double Toothpicks in the summer. Coastal Californians get snooty about it but as I point out, not every town has a classic song about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5P6zdlPJ34&feature=kp

Layne got his first save, gave up two hits and two runs in three innings...great start!
