While that is a very good jump for a kid that size, there is not much money (scholarships) available for D1 track and field. Due to Title IX requirements for balancing scholarships for men/women athletes, the football program eats up too many scholarships for the track program to tap into. Even if he were awarded a scholarship at an NAIA school, the extra scholarship dollars often pale in comparison to the extra tuition costs.

On a related note. Stacy Keely who left the program after his first semester at SDSU was a two-time high jump champ in Nebraska. I believe he won both years with jumps around 6'9". While he did not weigh 225 lbs, his 6'8" frame and 80" wingspan combined to make quite a target on the football field. Too bad his most noteworthy accomplishment at SDSU was winning the burger eating contest in fall camp. (Or was that his brother Eron?)

I'd still like to see JJ get an opportunity with the Jackrabbit football program!

he also got second in triple jump, and because of his academics the track team is picking up the rest of his tuition. I think he score a 32 or high on his ACTs

North beats South 30-7 with good showings from a bunch of future Jackrabbits.

Trey Carr had a fumble recovery, 4 tackles, a pass break up, and 3 receptions for 31 yards for North.

Issac Wallace was the leading rusher for South with 83 yards and a TD on 17 carries.

Makiah Slade (North) had 3 tackles, a pass break up, and an interception he took back 51 yards for a touchdown.

Daniel Vega, 2014 offer, leaving Wyoming after a month of summer workouts. Is SDSU back in play or don't we want to touch a kid who committed to Illinois State and then decommitted and signed with Wyoming.

Article says he is contemplating on whether he wants to continue playing football and if he does, he wants to stay close to home.

A Cedar Rapids native seems to have UNI transfer written all over him. Unless he has a uncle working at Daktronics or a grandmother living in Brookings, I don't think he has much interest in SDSU at this point. The article mentioned the other defensive players that Wyoming had recruited which makes you think that maybe this had an impact on Vega's decision. Or maybe it didn't. We seem to have a confused 19yr old that is having a hard time sorting out choices and then sticking too them once a decision has been made.

I just noticed that Thor Reimer, a 2014 recruit, has been named Scout Team Player of the Week every week so far this season. Its in the game notes for this weekend's game. Sounds like he might be a player for us in the coming years.

Romenesko also has multiple mentions on defense and special teams. If I recall correctly, he had a season ending injury his Sr. year of high school and may have slipped through the cracks. It'll be interesting to see where Thor and Alex end up next year.

Safety - Alex Romenesko, 6'0" 185, Hartland, WI (Arrowhead)

It will be considering we will have 7 starters back on offense, not including Schoff or Lujan, plus 8 or 9 with starting time on D. Love to see the depth really starting to build.
