  • Fiegen's status

Kellie Fiegen's injuries came at a tough time for the Jackrabbits, who are fighting to stay in the Summit tournament. Luckily, her left hand was not broken, but was very bruised, while her cheekbone will eventually require constructive surgery. As the Jacks start a three-game road swing at the U tonight, they really need at least one win in that string (includes the U, UMKC and NDSU). The hope is that she will be ready by the NDSU game, although there is no guarantee how effective she will be at that point.

One win will result in a tie for fourth with Oakland, if the Grizzlies lose at least one of their three remaining games (Omaha, Western Illinois and IUPUI). That would put the Jacks in the tourney as they own the head-to-head with Oakland. UMKC is in the mix, but could finish third if they beat the Jacks, so I've outlined the best scenario for SDSU if they only win one of the three remaining games. And please note that I believe the Jacks could win all three of their remaining contests, with the UMKC game the most difficult, if they play as good as they did without Fiegen in the match with Iowa State.

Kellie told me she hopes to be ready for the NDSU game, so let's hope that we can clinch a tourney birth before NDSU, and she can have an added week to get ready for the Summit tourney.

Maybe I missed something. What happened?

Go back and read the closed thread. Let's keep the speculation and gossip out of this one.

What kind of team are we without Kelli Fiegen? According to game tracker the Jacks are down 2-0 and trailing big in the 3rd set. Ouch! For one reason or another we simply do not match up with the Coyote VB team.

Jacks lose in three to the coyotes 25-14, 25-18 and 25-15. Not a very good showing and not a positive step forward to insure we make the conference tournament.

We played very poorly, no energy, the Yotes took it to us. What a crappy place to play, Brookings old middle school gym is a better place to play than where the Yotes play.

We are down to needing a win over NDSU Friday, and a loss by Oakland against either Western Illinois or IUPUI, if we are going to make the tournament. Fiegen is practicing, but whether she will be able to be effective tomorrow will obviously be a question. Pull for her and a Jack win against the Bison!

Fiegen practicing is really great news. We will be a much better team with Kelli in the line up - maybe a confidence thing more than anything. Good luck Jacks

Jacks VB fall to the Bison 3-1. Fiegen played but don't know how effective she was. Jacks season is I think over. Kind of fell apart late in the year again!

Something phil might want to adress going into next year. Don't we lose a lot of good seniors also? Well if it means the season is over at least she was able to play once more. Tough way to end the year.

We lose six seniors, although Kelsey Hanson played very little. Losing Birath (libero), Fiegen, Klingeman, Herman (she has a sister who is a freshman), and Philipot. Phil does have his work cut out for him. For the most part the players he had were here when he got back, but he will need to have a couple of good recruiting years to get us back up where we want to be IMO.

We lose six seniors plus Howard, Stout, and Leichner(sp). Signed 3 in Gibson, Hora, and the defensive specialist from Minnesota. Leaves us with 10 girls. Wonder what's going on.
