  1. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

It is not impossible. All you do is furnish logical arguments based on verifiable data which suggests the validity of SOS as a predictor of performance, and therefore, the wisdom of the committee in...
  2. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

Unfortunately upset statistics do not agree with you. If anything, they suggest that the committee has always done a bad job with seeding, and that instead of getting better, they are getting worse....
  3. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

I would also note that the reliability of these upsets is, if anything, an indication that the committee's selection criteria is--in a word--flawed.

This is the 31st 64 team tournament.

    There...
  4. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

So the committee's unbiased now? Who--apart from the committee itself--would support that claim?

I would also note that one can apply bad criteria in an entirely unbiased fashion. The lack of bias...
  5. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

If *anything*, dissatisfaction with the committee's methods and criteria puts me squarely in the majority.

Also, thank you for resorting to characterizations. Nothing says, "I got nothing else"...
  6. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

BTW: RPI is pretty much the phrenology of statistics.

Using RPI--or SOS, which constitutes 50% of a team's RPI--to seed teams is about as stupid a metric as one can possibly get.

    However, it's...
  7. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

Their 2013/14 non-conf slate was remarkably similar to their 2012/13 non-conf slate, and both are remarkably similar to SDSU's 2012/13 non-conf slate, with exactly one exception: In both years, NDSU...
  8. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

The linchpin of your argument is that the committee is, if not infallible, then at least consistent. This is not a supportable position.

And that doesn't even get into the absurdity of discounting...

Re: SDSU WBB 2015 NCAA Tourney

TV. Media coverage. Awareness. You'd have a lot more angry writers if the NCAA continued to pat the Butler men on the head and then sit them at the little kids table.

    If your starting assumption...
  10. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

You can't use the committee's S-curve to justify their seed. You're basically saying, "they deserved a 12 seed because they got a 12 seed."
  11. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

I dunno. Did that team beat a ranked opponent? Or were you talking about the inexplicable decision to give NDSU a 12 seed despite a resume that was in every conceivable respect worse than that of the...
  12. Re: Men's NCAA 2015 Tournament Summit league journey (NDSU Bison)

The Jacks lost by 8 to Baylor, and were only down 4 with 30 seconds left in the game.

They were in that game. NDSU was never in this one.

Re: SDSU WBB 2015 NCAA Tourney

Not going to happen. SDSU is on the outside looking in, and frankly, I have absolutely no problem with that at all. College athletics is so corrupt once you get past a certain level that I want...

NC State has had 'STATE' variants for a few years now:

    Re: 2015 NIT

    Why are you surprised?

SDSU has appeared in 13 NCAA sponsored MBB, WBB and FB tournaments. They have gotten screwed 12 times. They're going to get screwed a thirteenth time tomorrow night.

Re: SLT Championship: Jackrabbits vs. The Bizon

Seems like it's about time to post Nagy's perspective on this. And I'm rather surprised it hasn't been posted yet.

The guy who lost the game has a more mature attitude about all this than some of...

    Re: Summit tourney, 2015

    Also worth chewing on:

In 2014, the Valley tournament drew 57,520 combined to 10 sessions (men's and women's).

The Summit Tournament is going to eclipse that attendance total in 8 sessions.

    Attendance was over 2100.

Pretty sure the Jacks will have no difficulty drawing in major conference programs in future years.
