  • Game Week: Duquesne

It's time to get this rolling. Our depth chart is set. However, The Dukes are kind of a ghost. Their social media sucks. Their student newspaper has done two basketball stories over the summer, but zero football, and the Pittsburgh Gazette doesn't know they exist. Finding info has been a challenge but here is what I have.

Looking at Hines' highlights, did it seem to you like he could be vulnerable to fumbling?

I'll go out on a limb and say the Jacks force at least one fumble by him. No doubt he's a powerful runner, but it also seemed like defenders were attempting to tackle him above the waist. Hoping Jacks don't make that mistake and they tackle low.

Thanks again for the blog post. Makes me even antsier for 8/31, particularly if your predicted score is accurate.

Will there be a best guess for the attendance at Thursday evening's game? Will it be an over under of 12,000 or 14,000?
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

I'll agree he does look susceptible to putting the ball on the turf. I also agree that most defenders make the mistake of tackling high. Low man wins. I do not think we make those mistakes. He may get a few 8-15 us runs but I don't anticipate he breaks 100. Physically we need to impose our size on them. They will have fight but in most areas they will be giving up a couple inches and 10-20 pounds. Keep the big guys fresh with rotations and win the line of scrimmage.

I think a respectable crowd would be in that 12k range...

I agree it will be around 12,000, but would hardly call that respectable. I realize it's a Thursday night against an unknown opponent, but this team deserves better.

First game of a promising season. Student turnout should be good. The weather looks to be pleasant. I'll go with estimated attendance of more than 14,000.

Of course the team deserves better. Regardless of projections we as a fan base should be packing the stands but alas we have not gotten to that point...it is a weeknight game with many schools in session. It's tough to drive much more than an hour on a weeknight and expect kids to be in school the next day. Throw in the fact that most people will be working as well on Friday. A mid tier opponent may also muddy any decision to return for this game. Most may have trouble making it to all the home games and I'd guess this may be the one they are willing to give up. I hope we can fill it in... 16-17k would be great but I'm also trying to be realistic.

They really should just designate 9/1 a state holiday, cancel school, and give folks an extra day off (for the Jacks and unity).

Can we start with a phonics tutorial? Is it pronounced Dukane?

Any key injuries to worry about? (ie Rumor started on bisonville that Goedert was seen in a boot with a calf injury, weird how no media knows about this).

With school starting again, I made it to zero practices this week. Sorry!

Looks fine here, although maybe TC clipped it when he was "cleaning." Guess now I have another reason to avoid Bisonville.
