  • South Dakota Added to California State Travel Ban

Looks like SDSU and USD won't be hosting Cal Poly or UC-Davis anytime soon after this year for football unless the games are already scheduled. That kind of stinks as those are two schools we both have real good relationships with on the FB field. I know it the past few years at least the SDSU MBB team has hosted a couple of public Cal schools, but it probably won't have a huge effect on Olympic sports.

Here is the article from the Sacramento Bee...http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-...157688724.html

PS...I don't think they will, but I hope Minnesota never decides to enact a travel ban on SD, that would suck for our baseball and especially wrestling team (I'm stoked for that duel!!!).

If they try hard enough I'm sure they can find an issue with all 49 other states and just form their own country.

Politics should be banned from sports...that ban would make sense.

Re: South Dakota Added to California State Travel Ban

I am getting tired of California dictating how the rest of the country does business beyond their borders. At some point, it would be nice if the rest of the country would say have a nice day and keep them out of our lives.

I do development work and we've been recruiting large agriculture development in our area. One business sector that has changed is poultry, because of California's prohibition of eggs from cages that are too small. It changes the equation of how you build, if you have to add supplemental heat, and how projects develop - just so you can market your product to them. Ethanol is the same way. You have to meet California's CARB standards if you want to sell ethanol in their state. So companies are making significant investments so that they can be privileged enough to sell to their market. In some areas of the country you can ignore it. When you are west of the Missouri River and a good portion of your ag markets are west, you have to change how you do business.

I'm not a fan of catering to their political whims and wish the Cal schools good luck! I'm just curious what happens if Cal Poly has to play in Brookings for football playoffs if they would forfeit or put pressure on the NCAA to change the schedule to meet their desires?

        - Rant over -

If the state legislatures would stay out of the toilet business, then Ca would have to worry about something else. I think it's fair to blame those who started this mess, by passing laws about who can use certain bathrooms. A solution that has yet to find a problem.

Re: South Dakota Added to California State Travel Ban

Sorry Nidaros, but I have a different viewpoint on why California excluded South Dakota. The article referenced specifically states that SD and Alabama were prohibited because of adoption laws.

The reason SD was added to the list was because of SB 149, which, was signed into law in March. It can be viewed as a polarizing law, but in my opinion it does not prevent adoption by LGBT couples. It simply protects the rights of agencies "that conflict with any sincerely-held religious belief or moral conviction of the child-placement agency." This law simply protects faith based agencies that offer adoption services from having to provide services that go against their religious beliefs.

I was adopted through a faith based organization over 50 years ago. Today, our family provides foster care and we receive services through a faith based organization. Nearly two years ago, we adopted one of our foster children and our faith based group provided the support. I can honestly say that we would have likely walked away from foster care years ago if it was not for the support we get through our agency. They go above and beyond what is required to help protect kids and the families that serve them. I attribute some of the success of this organization because of their passionate service based on their convictions through Christ. The same can be said for our family.

Does this mean that families cannot adopt or receive services if they have LGBT convictions? No, those services and providers are out there and each state's welfare system is prevented from directly discriminating. That is great and I feel it is important. I just hope we don't all have to offer homogenous services that are the same everywhere because we then lose our diversity, including our religious diversity. Should all kids have to attend a public school or university? My kids all have, but I'm glad they had choices. Should we all get our medical services through non-religious based medical facilities? I'm thankful that all of my kids were born in the faith based hospitals that we chose. My wife has even worked for a faith based hospital for the last ten years.

This is not exclusively about toilet business and it disappoints me that California's state institutions will be prohibited from traveling to Brookings because faith based agencies rights are being protected.

Yeah, they're trying that too . . . some of them anyway.

Wait, what? You said you didn't want politics in sports. I agreed with you because that would remove public financing for stadiums.

Guess i read it as sarcasm, taking a relatively generic, benign post, said in jest, and trying to bestow upon it a negative connotation...sorry if I misinterpreted your intensions. Then you really are for the removal of public financing for Stadiums like the Denny,or why bring it up and agree that would be a good thing,in your opinion?I'm back to someone wants to argue today.

Furthermore, who, other than you implying so, said I was against public financing of Stadiums anyway? You can't agree with something I've never said.

In a more nuanced/specific view, I'm against public financing across the board for stadiums for professional teams that are owned by the team. Public financing for something like the Denny where it's owned by the city should be looked at on a case by case basis. I'd say the Denny is a positive.

When people talk about politics in sports, public financing for professional stadiums is the first thing I think of.

Well thank you, that clarifies your position quite a bit.I take back you want to argue, your reasoning seems to be pretty legitimate to me after you made your specificities known on the subject. You should of said that right up front instead of leaving it open to anyone's interpretation though.
