  • GDT: Jackrabbits vs Leathernecks

Another doubleheader today as the women host one of the teams tied for first place. The Leathernecks are 1-18 against AJ's teams. WIU brings a high powered offense to Frost. This will be a test for the normally tough Jackrabbit defense. WIU attempts 28.6 3 point shots per game. They took 79 shots against the bison. Normally they average 67.6. The Jackrabbits allow 56.6 shots in conference play and 59 for the year. I expect the defense to lead the charge today. 5'4" Clemens is the leading scorer for the Leathernecks. Alexander will likely draw this match. Geubert could get some time there as well. Higginbotham and Blumer will likely be the 3 point shooters to watch as they are 33.3% and 37% from deep while taking almost half of the Leatherneck long shots. The game is on Midco and ESPN3 2pm. There is also the opportunity to have a pork sandwich prior to the doubleheader as the Pork Classic is today. The game is at Frost, the Jackrabbit defense is good, and the Jackrabbits are showing improvement each game are the reasons I would find a home win likely. Go Jacks!!

What better way to test your much respected impregnable defense against their potent offense.I think our defense will weaken their offense enough and our offense is good enough to finish the job.Jacks will be too tough at home. Both teams will come out battling and will likely remain locked in battle the entire way.An early test of resolve and finding ways to prevail and come away with the win.Secertly hoping it becomes a little bit easier by everyone having a real good game with few mistakes and shooting well today, otherwise we grind it out ,battling all the way,not much time for a breather in this one,if the latter is the case.

35-26 Jacks at the half. Ton of offensive rebounds for Western and a few bad TOs for us.

Classic SDSU defense. I don't think WIU is going to meet their 80+ point average today.

WIU is making us earn our points though. I can see why they have a good record.

Overall a pretty good first half against an explosive WIU team.

End of 3 Jacks lead 53-40. Defense has been superb.

Tough defense and unselfish offensive play got it done today. Those are two characteristics that usually emerge with SDSU teams as March approaches. It's great to see it happening again this year.

I did not expect to see 7 wins in the first half of the Summit season when Ober went down. Well done.

73-58. Final. Defense trumps offense which is almost always the case.

Very good ball movement, sure crisp passing to the right person, was a pleasure to watch. We jumped on them quickly and never let up.I like how we keep progressing, getting better with each game.Young leading the way ,everyone taking her lead and playing with a purpose, win the Summit .Defense solid like a rock.

Just watched replay of game,I really think Kerrie Young has turned a page in her storied carreer as a Jackrabbit. She didn't necessarily want to be the center of attention but was rather thrust into that position, and to her credit, she didn't back down from accepting that new found responsibility. She's so much of a vital part of this years team minus Macy.It makes me wonder how good we could have been with the beginning of the year starting five all intact yet. That said,we will be so awesome next year and for the foreseeable future too.

This year we are very good, everyone has elevated their game and we play as a team ,a team with very good individual players, working together for common goals. They don't compete against each other as much as they encourage the best from each other and work hard to become as good as they can be themselves.Excited to watch this team improve and get better and better as the season progresses.Must be fun to play on such a team.GBGBGJ.

Check out this 3/4 heave shot from Western Illinois' Morgan Blumer. Pretty impressive, a lot of girls can't even get it that far.
