  • 2016-17 Road to Sioux Falls SLT

The conference play begins tomorrow on a Wednesday. The Jackrabbits vs Bison is the way the last game of the conference tourney ended. Denver also hosts the Golden Eagles which are the 2 teams that SDSU squeaked by in the tourney.

The women start with 4 games tomorrow. There should not be any surprises in the opening games unless the Mavs find a way to slow down ORU on the road.
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

I like that the men have 3 of their first 4 games at home. And their only road win in the first 4 is Western Ill. We play a lot better at home and will have to play good to win both of our first 2 games.

Good news in the GoJacks preview article for the women's game that just came up - Ober is listed as a probable starter.

I just saw that as well. That is tremendously good news. Unless the bison bring more game than they have recently, Ober should get rest if needed.

It would have been interesting to see what the Jacks would have run out for a starting lineup if Ober wasn't available.

If you were replacing Ober, it would seem another post player(Flaata or Bultsma) would arrive to keep Thompson at the 4 and rotate Thompson to post as substitution required. Otherwise, Palmer or Tracy would be the 4 and move Thompson to start at the 5 and stay at the 5. Thompson is a tough match for anyone at the 4. It would be difficult to remove that.

Palmer started second half at Witchita St.

I agree with you, only use her if needed, otherwise she could heal up a little bit more. She might want to go,you know how competitors are,but the way she went down in agony, maybe it would be wise to let her heal some more, but who am I to say.Good news none the less it wasn't a serious injury, but it must have been painful.

If Thompson would go to the post, the need for developing another post is still there. Thompson has been getting minutes there most games in the rotation while Flaata found spot duty. Thompson scoring slowed a bunch in second half against the Shockers which could have been due to adjustments as well. Palmer did pick up 4 points and 3 boards in the second half. Thompson seems to be a bigger threat at the 4. It would remove a trump card from the deck with her at the 5 only. Hopefully the bison game will give some different looks for substitutions. A freshman(or upperclassman) player still has not risen from the bench to say this one will contribute significantly at tournament time. The Jackrabbits have room in the rotation for another player to jump into action.

That is the one thing about this team. There were a lot of people that thought that this team could reach the Sweet 16 but this is probably the shortest bench that I remember AJ having in a long time if not ever. The team originally had the starting 5 and Lexi. You lose the Miller and now you have the top 4 and Lexi. Lexi did score more last game, and she will have to, but she doesn't get many assists to the amount of turnovers she has for a PG. She is by far the 5th best player on this team right now, though(for the players eligible).
This will give several players more playing time so we know what we will have next year but that doesn't do Young or Ober any good. I am hoping that Tracy, Graettinger, Palmer or maybe Bultsma come through and play much better. Palmer and Bultsma will be passed on the depth chart next year (probably) but we will see.
P.S I'm not giving up on this year because we still have enough to get it done but it will be a lot more interesting.

Tyler just said Ober will not start tonight and likely won't play.

WBB Closer es than expected overall. Leathernecks proved Mastodons weak.

Denver men protect home court against ORU.

MBB USD is pounding Omaha in the first half. They are up 20 nearing halftime.

Tyler Merriam just tweeted that W. Illinois won at Ft. Wayne 93-91 without its starting point guard. They made 18 threes. I need a drink...
