Any idea who we are hiring and why Db/Special Teams coach Jay Christensen was fired?

He didn't recruit NW Iowa hard enough. (Sarcasm)

On a serious note, providing a link, source or something would help.

He's done a good job with the defensive backs. Special teams hasn't been great. Waiting for confirmation to see if this is true.

He is still listed as a member of the coaching staff on the website. Seems like it would be an odd time to be making a change if true, being six weeks after the end of the season.

For the record he coaches safeties not the corners. Dan Jackson coaches corners.

The assistant coach at SDSU is still a stepping stone opportunity. Salaries probably have not improved that much. I would not be surprised to later hear that Coach Christensen was looking for more income and was not to find it coaching at SDSU so he started looking on the outside and found an opportunity.

He was let go, not left on his own.

What is this based on? I know his twitter still says SDSU football coach.

I know his family. 100% factual. I just hadn't heard why?

That is unfortunate. I believe he recruits Florida and has had success doing that. His work with our safeties has been pretty good IMO as well.

Kinda a weird time to fire a coach with a month left until signing day

You have come to the wrong place seeking an answer to "why". This board is not about rumor and discussing personnel matters. BTW, not qualified to be a moderator so take what I say for face value. Even if you asked Stig directly, I doubt he would be at liberty to discuss the matter.

Just to input my two cents, this actually happened in December just before winter break.

They are advertising for this job, as well as the video coordinator position. There is an opening. whether or not it was a fired/fired thing, or a mutual parting, or one of those looking at a new direction, is all eye of the beholder and will depend on what side of the issue you are on.

Our special teams have been a train wreck that last couple years. Every time we kickoff I feel like it's going for 6. That's just more perception than reality but man it'd sure be nice to not pop-up kick every time.
