  • Here we go again! NDSU Round 2

After a wild game in Bozeman, SDSU heads back up to Fargo for round 2 of the playoffs.

The SDSU seniors are 0-6 against the Bison in their careers, including a 37-17 loss this year.

    Thoughts?

You know what will be different/make a difference? The new indoor practice facility. More ability to have full-out practices and to be prepared for the crowd in Farko.

Jacks win this time. Can just feel it.

Does anyone have definitive information on tickets? I have read that rather than park visitor in the corner as is done for regular-season games, visitors in playoff games have an allotment of tickets behind their bench. Not sure how accurate that is. I assume tickets will go on sale Monday. Will SDSU season-ticket holders have a priority shot at the tickets?

Yep, each team gets a certain number of tickets behind vistors bench, basically the lower 1/4 of the student section closest to midfield. Visitors also get some tickets in the far northwest corner as well.

Stig's team has used the indoor facility to its advantage this season. I was at the game at NDSU and the orchestrated noise (that is, the head of the NDSU cheerleading program who has a side-job of PA announcer tells the crowd when to make noise -- you know, I may be wrong about that guy being the head of the NDSU cheerleading program) on third-down didn't do anything to SDSU this year. My recollection is we had no missteps attributable to noise.

A playoff crowd at Fargo may be a touch different than the regular-season crowd. Some Bison partisans think there's a boredom factor because the Bison simply do not lose in Fargo. I'm willing to believe there may be something to that. I think the Bison fans that show up for a playoff will be extremely active and vocal -- no boredom factor present in the post-season.

The bison play D. No one else in FCS does. Simple as that.

No question the Bison play good D. It's my view that the Bison defense rarely, if ever, makes a mistake. They deserve a lot of credit for that and I personally admire the heck out of the coaching staff and Bison players. I expect the oddsmakers to give the nod to the Bison over the Jackrabbits. NOW, what really happens on the field,...well, you know the cliché: that's why they play the game. If experts had to pick the few teams in this country that have a realistic shot at beating the Bison, SDSU would be on the very short list. Bison fans will discount the Jackrabbits. Unfortunately, the Bison coaching staff and players know better than some of their fans. Those who make the calls and play the game will not overlook the Jacks.

I've watched every one of the Jackrabbit wins over the Bison in the modern era (DI). I've watched most of the Jackrabbit losses to NDSU in the modern era.

I'm picking the Jackrabbits to advance to round 3.

Nope, no one plays defense in the FCS...

Get the f out of here with that. UNI held you to 3 points, but they don't play defense....

Reality check: knowledgeable Bison fans know SDSU is the only true threat in this bracket to keep us from Frisco. Jacks JD, you bought your Frisco tickets yet?

Oh course you should after seeing how MSU plays defense. NDSU's is nothing like MSU's. The Bison ran for 290 yards in the first game and I suspect they will be able to run again on Saturday.

Sumner will make some plays but the Bison D-line is head and shoulders above MSU's.

Looking forward to a good game.

Nobody would even think MSU D and NDSU D are the same.

To our Bison friends: keep in mind we have a section dedicated to smack. I think this week on the message boards may be a little spirited. Fortunately for both teams, those of us who chose to spend time on message boards will have little to do with the actual outcome of the game (I say "little" because some will physically show up at the game and yell a lot).

And, for my fellow Jackrabbit fans: if the smack shoe fits, wear it.

Any chance they can open the roof on the dome so its played in the elements? That would sure help our chances.
