This weekend, the school will host a football game, a cross county meet, a women's soccer game and two volleyball matches - not to mention the inauguration of president David Chicoine. It's the first of many super weekends, if you will - clusters of home sporting events within a short time span.
Having more home events and being able to hold them almost simultaneously - although wearing on support staffers - means that it wouldn't be unreasonable for gate revenues to jump 10-12 percent, according to ticket manager Christi Williams.
The Jacks reported $596,889 in regular-season gate revenues during 2006-07, continuing a two-year upturn after a dramatic drop - roughly $110,000 - from their final season in Division II to their first year at the D-I level.
"People that live outside of town are excited to come to Brookings for the weekend and catch more than one event," Williams said when asked about the feedback her office has received. "Our schedules have been sporadic in the past, and the addition of the (Summit League) gives us more of a consistent schedule centered around the weekend instead of random nights." . . . (read more)
