NSIC may add Mary this week
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference could decide this week on whether to invite the University of Mary in Bismarck to join.
"The presidents have discussed it and I think expansion is something they are very interested in," NSIC Commissioner Butch Raymond said Tuesday. "We are always looking to expand if we can get the right fit for the conference and the school."
Mary and Upper Iowa are being considered for the NSIC, which currently has eight members.
Mary, currently a member of the Dakota Athletic Conference, has been an NAIA national power in nearly every sport for the past several years. The university is considering a move to NCAA Division II, but only if conference affiliation is in place.
Upper Iowa, in Fayette, Iowa, moved from NCAA Division III to Division II in 2003. The university fell one vote shy of being invited to join the NSIC last year.
