SDSU Junior Earns National Scholarship
A South Dakota State University junior has earned a prestigious national scholarship in part for his work with the National Institutes of Health.
Ihab Halaweish received one of 320 Goldwater Scholarships, named for the late Sen. Barry Goldwater. The scholarship is the premier undergraduate award for students pursuing careers in mathematics, engineering and the natural sciences. . . .
He says he worked on developing a vaccine for the West Nile Virus using an existing vaccine for Hepatitis C. The two diseases are from the same family of viruses.
Halaweish will return to the NIH this summer to pick up his research where he left off last fall.
