    Lowery named academic All-American

South Dakota State University distance running standout Brad Lowery has earned a spot on an academic All-America team for the second consecutive year.

Lowery, a senior from Pierre, was named Tuesday to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team. The team was selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A College Division third-team academic All-America selection in 2004, when SDSU competed at the Division II level, Lowery has compiled a 3.744 GPA while majoring in physics.

After sitting out the 2004 cross country season, Lowery returned to the track in impressive style, setting the indoor school record in the 3,000-meter run (8:05.04) and placing eighth in the 1,500-meter run at the USA Indoor Championshaaips.

During the outdoor season, Lowery was dominant in the 1,500 meters, winning the event at the Missouri Relays, Drake Relays and Division I Independent Championships. Lowery, who has a season of cross country eligibility remaining, also set school records en route to victories in the mile run at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays (4:01.67) and the 5,000-meter run at the Drake Relays (14:00.24).
