Olsen selects Jackrabbits

It didn't take too much convincing for St. Albert standout Justine Olsen to decide where she wanted to continue her volleyball career.
The Saintes' star said she knew with a trip to South Dakota State that it's where she wanted to play.
"I went to camp there last summer and I liked it there," she said. "I pretty much decided (then). I was pretty set on going there."
If that weren't enough, former Abraham Lincoln star Minette Ridenour will be a junior on the squad.
"We used to live next door to each other," Olsen explained. "Minette goes up there and she's had a good experience."
Olsen, the daughter of Bob and Debbie Olsen, will play as a "preferred walk on," meaning she can earn a scholarship by being one of the top players at her position.
The 5-foot-7 Olsen was an attacker for the Saintes, and finished with a team-high 240 kills last fall, an average of 2.45 per game.
At SDSU Olsen, who also stared in basketball and track for the Saintes, will switch to a defensive specialist and see time at libero.
"I'm hoping to get the libero spot," Olsen said. "That's what I played in club (volleyball). It wasn't really that big of a deal ... I love getting digs."
Olsen paced the Saintes with 256 digs, while she also served 94 percent for the season with 27 aces, which should be a big help.
"A libero can serve now in college," Olsen explained.
Olsen joins the Jackrabbits as they complete a move to Division I. Last season they finished 22-12.
"I've always wanted to play Division I," Olsen said. "That's been my dream ... I'm happy I achieved it, now I just have to play."
The jump from high school to Divison I is quite a big one and Olsen, who plans on studying nutrition, said she looks forward to getting started at the next level.
"It's going to be tough, but I'm excited for the challenge," she said. "I'm not really nervous, I just want to get started."
