Graver to coach in NCA inaugural event

ELKHORN — Terry Graver's desire of having a Nebraska Coaches Association all-star softball event will become a reality Wednesday night.
Graver will serve as the head coach for the Blue Team in the inaugural all-star doubleheader scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m. at Haymarket Park's Bowlin Field in Lincoln.
"I was kind of taken aback by it because there are a lot of great coaches out there," said Graver, the head coach at Elkhorn High School. "It is quite an honor." . . .
The doubleheader will provide Graver an opportunity to coach two of his former players one more time. Pitcher Jenna Marston (headed to South Dakota State) and third baseman Kelly Slattery will play key roles for the Blue.
"Our strength will be pitching and defense," Graver said, noting that the roster also includes pitchers Tagney Jones of Lincoln Southeast and Jenny Gawart of Nebraska City. "We've got Kelsey Smith of Blair at shortstop. She's someone I've seen a lot of and as an opposing coach, I'm glad to see her graduate because she is a great player." . . .
