Klusaw, Ridenour honored by independents
South Dakota State University volleyball players Minette Ridenour and Kristie Klusaw have received Division I Independent Volleyball weekly awards after leading the Jackrabbits to a 3-0 record at the Doublewood Inn Classic last weekend in Fargo, N.D.
Ridenour, a 6-foot junior outside hitter, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after posting double-doubles in all three SDSU matches, averaging 5.00 kills and 3.78 digs per game. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native tallied 12 kills and 10 digs against Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sept. 9, then turned in outings of 16 kills and 11 digs against Sam Houston State (Texas) and 17 kills and 13 digs versus North Dakota State. An all-tournament selection, she hit .270, while contributing five service aces and five block assists.
Klusaw, a 5-10 junior setter, averaged 14.00 assists per game to earn Setter of the Week recognition. A native of Bellevue, Neb., Klusaw's top performance was a 48-assist, 11-dig outing against Sam Houston State. SDSU tallied a .306 team hitting percentage over its three matches, with Klusaw also adding six service aces and 23 digs (2.56 dpg). Her five service aces in the tournament finale against North Dakota State tied a career high.
The Jackrabbits, 5-6 overall, are scheduled to play three matches this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. SDSU will meet Morehead State (Ky.) at 5 p.m. Eastern Time (4 p.m. Central) Friday, before taking on host Wake Forest at 1 p.m. Eastern (noon Central) and Georgetown at 5 p.m. Eastern (4 p.m. Central) in Saturday's action.
