Tennis upends Dordt in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The South Dakota State University women’s tennis picked up its first dual victory of the spring season Saturday night, defeating Dordt College 5-4 at the Sioux Empire Fitness Center in Sioux Falls.

The Jackrabbits opened the match winning one of three doubles contests, then used victories in five of the six singles matches to defeat the Defenders. SDSU reeled off five consecutive wins at the No. 2 through No. 6 singles slots as Katie Wylie, Jen Sondreal, Nicole Siebrasse, Amy Albrecht and Kayla Pruitt were victorious.

Wylie, a sophomore from Pierre, put the Jacks on the board by defeating Betsy Barr 6-1, 6-4. Sondreal followed that up by defeating Steph Helmus 7-5, 6-1.

Siebrasse, a Huron native, recorded two straight sets of 6-2 to upend Sandra Beusselman. After an Albrecht victory at the No. 5 singles slot, the freshman Pruitt closed out singles competition defeating Libby Dyketra 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles action, Wylie and Seibrasse teamed for an 8-1 decision at No. 2 doubles.

The Jackrabbits, 1-0 overall, return to action Jan. 27 with a match against Northern Colorado. Start time is 5 p.m. MT in Colorado Springs, Colo.
