Brittany Postma named Newcomer of the Week
CAPTION: Brittany Postma batted .312 at the Buzz Classic to earn Division I Independent Softball Newcomer of the Week honors.
South Dakota State outfielder Brittany Postma is the first recipient of the Division I Independent Softball Newcomer of the Week award.
Postma, a freshman from Madison, started all six games for the Jackrabbits at the Buzz Classic last weekend and responded by hitting .312 (5-of-16) with two stolen bases and one RBI. Her lone RBI, which came on a two-out single in the top of the seventh, sent the game against Wisconsin into extra innings, in which SDSU later prevailed 3-2.
Selections were determined by a vote of sports information directors from the eight Division I schools competing as independents in softball.
The Jackrabbits have compiled an 8-6 overall record heading into action Thursday against Yale and Saint Peter's (N.J.) at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
