    Jacks split at Southeast Missouri



    CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - South Dakota State scored three runs in the top of the seventh and defeated Southeast Missouri 8-5 in the second game giving the teams in a split in their baseball doubleheader Saturday.

    SEMO rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener 6-5.

    SDSU is now 2-8 for the season while SEMIO is 6-8. The Jacks being a three-game series at Nebraska Friday.

    Senior right hander Gary Olechoski figured in both decisions for the Jacks. In the opener, he came on in the seventh and gave up a two-run triple to Dustin Pritchett to end the game.

    In the nitecap, he came on to start the seventh and retired the side in order to gain his second save of the season. Kirby Morsching, who relieved starter Christian Larson in the sixth, earned the victory. Larson threw four shutout innings but SEMO scored twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth. In five and two-thirds innings, Larson allowed six hits, one walk and struckout five.

    Tyson Fisher drove in four runs in the nitecap, with a run-scoring single in the fourth, a two-run homer in the sixth and a ground out in the seventh. Fisher and Korby Mintken had two hits each. Mintken tripled and scored on a single by Jake Rogers in the fourth.

    In the first game, SDSU took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh when Brian Estes scored from first base on a base hit to short right by Jake Rogers.

    After SEMO’s leadoff batter Daryl Graham walked on four pitches, Caleb Thielbar came on to pitch. Pinch hitter Chad Mercardo bunted for a sacrifice. Aaron Rave singled to right center with the Graham holding at third. Gary Olechoski in to pitch and the first batter he faced, Dustin Pritchett delivered a triple off the fence in left center, driving in two runs giving SEMO the victory. Pritchett also had two doubles in the game.

    Rogers and Matt Zabel had two hits each for the Jacks, Rogers had a two-run
    homer in the third.
