Pesqueira named Independent Player of the Week
South Dakota State infielder Chris Pesqueira has been honored as this week's Division I Independent Softball Player of the Week.
A senior from Tempe, Ariz., Pesqueira earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Lobo Classic last weekend after batting .467 (7-for-15) with two home runs and five runs batted inI. She also scored five runs, recorded an .867 slugging percentage, .500 on-base percentage and played errorless defense in 21 chances.
Pesqueira recorded at least one hit in four of the five games the Jackrabbits played, including home runs in consecutive games against Texas Tech.
For the season, Pesqueira leads the team with a .371 batting average and .548 slugging percentage, while ranking second with three home runs and 14 runs batted in.
After having their doubleheader at Creighton (Neb.) postponed on Wednesday, the Jackrabbits are scheduled to travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Hawkeye Classic. The tournament, hosted by the University of Iowa, runs from Friday through Sunday.
