I know that the NCAA is really big on Title IX, which basically states that women's sports should be treated equally as men's sports. The NCAA has very strict guidelines for universities to follow, to ensure that both genders are treated as equally as can be. So why isn't the NCAA held to that same standard when it comes to rewarding teams in the NCAA tourney?
I know that the men's NCAA tourney is the crown jewel of the NCAA and each school that participates in the tourney will receive money for being in the tourney. As each team wins in the tourney, more money is awarded to the conference that team represents. I believe each victory is worth about $1.1 Million.
For the women's tourney, I'm not really sure how the money from the TV contract is split up amongst the participants, but I'm very sure that it is much less than what the men receive. So that got me to thinking, why can't the NCAA pool all the money from the men's tourney and women's tourney together and grant each victory, be it men's or women's, equal compensate for each victory.
Since SDSU has a better chance at this time to advance in the women's NCAA tourney than they do in the Men's, I would think that SDSU would support the idea. In fact I'm sure that after SDSU and NDSU are both eligible for the NCAA's that the Mid-Con would support this also. The Mid-Con has not advanced in the men's NCAA in a long time and if SDSU or NDSU women can make the sweet 16 once in 5 years, it would help generate more money for the conference.
Most universities are liberal and may also support the idea of equality because it is the Politically Correct thing to do.
I wanted to post this idea a few weeks ago, but thought it may be an inappropriate time with SDSU in the post season and all, but now that the post season is over I thought I would post the idea so it can be discussed during the off-season.
Go State!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)
