Re: Last UP: ORU Eagles soared North.....

Anyone think the officiating last night was really a "homer" job? ORU still wouldn't have won, but I thought it was still pretty bad. The call when Ketty "supposedley" hit the girl on the layup was a good no call. Ketty didn't touch her. But Andrea's foul call when they should have called a travel?? I thought that was terrible.

You are right, it was a terrible call, but the ref made up for it a couple drives later calling a foul on us that wasn't. Still though, we went over half of the first half without a foul...I don't think I've ever seen a team go foul-less for so long.

Was it homerish? Maybe...but I don't really remember any plays during the first 10 or so minutes where we might have fouled ORU either, so maybe we really just didn't foul.

There was a point in the 2nd half when I felt I was in the midst of the beer commercial, with the ref "I blew that last call, but I'll make it up by calling a bad call on the other team sometime in the 2nd half." Especially with the quick fouls called at the start of the second half.

Actually this was a Subway commercial I believe. But it is a good one.

There was one other call I remember. Maria tried to step over to cut the girl off from driving down the baseline. She was late; really late and the girl drove right into her right leg and she and the ball went out of bounds. Her drive wasn't going anywhere, but it was definitely a blocking call on Maria.

But...anyways. I'm really not trying to prove anything. Just seeing if anyone else saw what I saw. Here's to the WNIT! Cheers!

You are right, I remember that now...you should have seen the ORU bench on that one, specifically the assistants, many arms were thrown into the air in awe of the no call.

Terry V's great write up of the game....

BROOKINGS - With a jaw-dropping performance in the last game of the regular season, South Dakota State made it official: This was no regular season.

An 88-67 victory against defending conference tournament champion Oral Roberts on Monday night was the Jackrabbits' 12th in a row overall and 22nd consecutive at home, the second longest active streak at the NCAA Division I level. They also reached the 23-win mark for the second straight season. That includes 16 Summit League victories, the second most in conference history. SDSU also won the 10-team league - in its first year as a member and in the fourth year of the reclassification process - by four games, the third largest spread ever. (more at link above)

The last 7 games the Jacks outscored the opposition by 220 points or an average margin of 31.43 points a game.
On the year the Jacks outscored the opposition by 386 points or an average margin of 13.31 points a game.
Moral of the story: the Jacks toyed with conference foes in the first half of conference play.
Another fun stat because I am bored at work:
In the last 9 games of the 2006-07 regular season, the Jacks out scored the opposition by 268 points or an average of almost 30 a game.

Well since everyone is bored at work today. Here is my stat I found interesting. In the first 22 games, SDSU did not shoot over 50% from behind the arc in any single game. The last 7 games, SDSU has 50.3% from behind the arc.

Also, here is a crude graph showing the Field Goal Percentage on the left and the game number at the bottom. This shows the accumulated Field Goal Percentage and how it changed throught the year. We really started shooting the ball as a team much better later in the year than earlier in the year. Getting the post players back really helps in FG%.

As a team, we were shooting below 39% after 11 games and have been able to raise the FG% by more than 5% over the past 17 games.
