GDT: SDSU vs Omaha 4pm Baxter Arena SLN

HC Jamie Carey begins her head coaching in Omaha as the preseason 8th place team. Carey played for Stanford & Texas in college and Connecticut Sun in the WNBA. She has been involved in basketball most of her life. She is still looking for her team's first D1 win. She has lost a key player in Cora Olsen to injury. 5 of the 8 in regular rotation will be freshman with one sophomore added. There will be 2 6'+ players found in the rotation. The Jackrabbits could be adding Thul back to the rotation today. Vasecka should get in better game shape today as well. Omaha averages 56 ppg. I expect the Jackrabbit defense work to keep that score lower if AJ was serious about the postgame comments for the Tommies. Go Jacks!!
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

10-4 Omaha @ first media timeout. Brad Peterson notes this might be the earliest Dunn has entered the game to spell Meyer. 7 or 8-0 Omaha run to go along with SDSU's 5 turnovers.

Five minutes of extremely sloppy basketball by the Jacks. Five turnovers.

The fact that we are trailing at all in this game is honestly quite disappointing.

10 turnovers in 15 minutes against a team with zero D1 wins isn't acceptable. Even Brooklyn doesn't look like she's really into the game.

The Bison have their faults. But at this time they look like the hungrier/best team in the Summit.

It's going to be disappointing if they don't come out of the locker room playing like their hair is on fire.

They need to clean up the turnovers no doubt. But its highly unlikely they come out flaming. AJ makes them play in a system and as a team. Might be why Avery K could get the POY.

How do we know their noncon SOS is 203 versus the jacks at 29!

i am surprised they didn’t challenge themselves more before conference play started

I don't understand how the NET rankings are calculated, but they are only two spots behind us there.

We are going to set a record for jump balls.

That’s what happens when only 10 free throws are shot this whole game. Very few in the first half.

postgame AJ said team came out flat and gave up offensive rebounds, loose balls team didn't even dive for, Omaha beating the team on straight line drives. mentioned the great effort plays in the second half that the "team hadn't got in a while" -> o boards, diving for loose balls, deflections, turnovers that were forced ".. that got better as the game went on"

mentioned it being another game where the team didn't shoot well and said the wide open 3's that don't go in can be a bit deflating and let Omaha hang in there. Said two games in a row but doesn't think it's worth hitting the panic button.

he liked that the team turned a "little bit of a corner.." in the 2nd half with the defensive intensity -> forcing turnovers, getting down the floor, rebounding better

"I think since Christmas we've been flat. We have not been the same basketball team that we were in November and December, that's for sure. You know, for stretches in games, I can say that we have but not consistently. Not consistently in practice, consistently in games, so that's just going to be something we'll have to get better with, and I think we will."

said first 8 minutes were hard to watch - said Omaha guarded the team how everyone else does - stand by Brooklyn come and double from the backside
"We have to look at our plan, maybe it is getting too easy and we have to adjust a little bit, but we were just so slow and unresponsive in our decision making that it was just tough."

mentioned katie still working back, Hadley practiced yesterday but had been out for 4 days. Shortened up rotations in second half to create rhythm for some players which helped

Let's play the game and see who is hungrier.
