  • GDT: SDSU vs EWU 7pm FB&T Arena SLN

The Big Sky/Summit games are here again. The Eagles come to town with a 2-5 record. The media/coaches preseason has them picked 7/8 in the 11 team conference. They have had several close losses to Wash St, Washington, & St Mary. Grad student Peyton Howard leads in scoring and assists. 6'2" Fr Eggers leads in rebounds. The Eagles grab 13 O boards/game. EWU finished last year at 29-6 on top of the BSC. The Jackrabbits should be able to turn up the speed of the game for obtaining those 50/50 balls. How many players will double or triple team Brooklyn down low? The Jackrabbits should handle this game. Go Jacks!!
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

Game of runs indeed. Finish 1st on 10-2 run. End second scoring 2 points in final 5 minutes. Start third on 12-0 run.

side note: Georgia Tech (NET 26) took care of business at home tonight, beating Mississippi State (NET 22) 78-75

Much better defensive performance in the second half. May have been "encouraged" during the half time break to come out with more intensity. Vasecka on a nice run with 7 straight points.

There should be a couple of games next week where the bench will get a chance for some minutes.

Meanwhile in the Summit Big Sky challenge, USD gets demolished by Montana St. I didn’t think they’d be worse than last year but appearing that they took another step back. All is not well in Vermillion.

Paige's throw back bouncing it off a players foot which careened out of bounds , reminds me of some gal that did something in a game very similar. In that game, a player was chasing a ball thrown by a teammate heading for the 1/2 court line, a sure over and back as soon as she touched the ball on that side of the court. Instead, after catching up to the ball before it went over the line, she threw it at a pursuing opposition players legs very hard that it careened off her and right to her standing across from the O&B line, making it a legal ball. Both plays are really heads up plays.
Also , very pleased to see Mady Vlastuin being much more athletic and involved more in the offense this season and Katie Vasecka going off on little scoring sprees when they present themselves The whole team is coming together at times which can only lead to many more good things to come.

They are finding out what usually happens when you have a ball and shot dominant PG . Larkins is a very good player, but when you combine her with mostly inexperienced players, you get a lot of standing around and watching. It can work like it did with Nate Wolters, but he played with veteran players with good offensive games. The new USD coach doesn't have many other options other than just turning it over to Larkins. You really have to wonder what happens next season after Larkins leaves.
