South Dakota State
Aaron Johnston's Jackrabbit women's team landed Beresford's Natalie Carda, considered by Street and Smith magazine as the state's top girls player, and Willow Lake's Jennifer Warkenthien.
Like current seniors Sarita DeBoer and Shannon Schlagel, both Carda and Warkenthien have been two of the best in their class at the South Dakota high school girls ranks.
Carda, a 6-foot-1 center, was an Argus Leader Second Five pick last season, averaging 20.4 points and 11 rebounds a game for the Watchdogs. She has been on the all-state Class A team each of the last three years, earning first-team honors in the spring.
Warkenthien, a 6-foot post player, is a two-time Class B all-stater. Her 23-points and 12.6-rebounds a game last year earned her Argus Leader Second Five recognition.
"They really compliment one another, and they'll both play together a bit," Johnston said. "They're really similar to where Shannon and Sarita were - different styles of players who come in at the same time and play a similar position."
Johnston also inked two other players: 5-8 guard Ashlea Muckenhirn (17.8 points, 7.3 rebounds) from Osceola, Wis. , and 6-foot forward Stacie Oistad (13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds) from Sartell, Minn.
Great pick ups, Go State! ;D
