Vogel Scores 20 Points; SDSU Rips Doane 86-48
South Dakota State scored the first 13 points of the game as the Jackrabbits ran past Doane College 86-48 in women’s basketball Wednesday night.
It took Doane nearly seven minutes to get its first points, on a basket by Ashley Sullwold with 13:08 to play, and SDSU led 37-9 following a three-pointer by Andrea Verdegan with 2:30 to go in the half.
Sophomore Megan Vogel led the Jacks with 20 points while Verdegan, afreshman, had 19, hitting 5-of-7 three-point attempts. Verdegan and Sarita DeBoer had eight rebounds each to lead SDSU to a 55-35 margin on the boards.
Doane, which is 20-7 overall, was led by Lacie Stewart with 16 points. SDSU shot 39.7 percent for the game (27x58) while Doane finished at 28.1 percent (16x57) after an 18 percent first half (5x27).
SDSU, now 19-6, will host Upper Iowa in a 6 p.m. game Friday at Frost Arena.
