MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women’s basketball team will play nine home games including two exhibitions during the non-conference portion of the 2005-06 schedule announced today. The Badgers’ conference schedule will be announced by the Big Ten later this summer.
With the new rules change allowing schools to meet lower division opponents in exhibitions, the Badgers begin the season in an exhibition game with Div. II UW-Parkside on Sunday, Nov. 6. The following Sunday, Div. III UW-Platteville meets the Badgers. This is the first meeting for Wisconsin with Parkside, but the Badgers own a 5-0 record against the Pioneers dating back to the old state conference years from 1975-77.
Wisconsin opens the regular season with two more games at home playing host to Houston on Nov. 18, and Cleveland State on Nov. 20. Cleveland State is coached by former UW assistant coach Kate Peterson and former Badger player Kyle Black Rechlicz.
The women’s basketball team joins the UW football team in Hawaii over Thanksgiving with three games played each day from Nov. 25-27. The bracket has not been determined, but teams in the tournament include Cal State Northridge, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Hawaii, Idaho State, Texas A & M, and Washington State. The football team plays Hawaii on Friday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. CST in a game that will be televised by ESPN.
The Badgers return for three home games starting Friday, Dec. 2 with cross-state rival Marquette. Notre Dame follows on Sunday, and the Badgers have their first meeting with South Dakota State on Thursday, Dec. 8. South Dakota State, a perennial Div. II national champion, just recently moved to Div. I in the fall of 2004.
Wisconsin takes to the road for its first trip to the University of Kansas playing at Alan Field House on Sunday, Dec. 11. The Badgers meet UW-Milwaukee at the Klotsche Center on Wednesday before playing host to Western Illinois Dec. 23 in the final game before the holiday season. The non-conference schedule concludes with a home game vs. Eastern Illinois on Monday, Jan. 23, during a bye week in the Big Ten Conference season.
Game times and television coverage will be announced when the Big Ten announces the remainder of the Badgers’ schedule.
