Vogel receives weekly independent honor
South Dakota State University forward Megan Vogel has been named the Division I Independent Women's Basketball Player of the Week by a vote of the 10 independent schools' sports information directors.
Vogel, a 5-11 junior from St. Peter, Minn., averaged 21 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in leading the Jackrabbits to home victories over Texas State and Alabama last weekend. She scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Texas State, then tied a career high with 26 points versus Alabama, while adding seven rebounds and six assists.
For the week, Vogel shot 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from the field and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the foul line.
Vogel also reached the 1,000-point plateau for her career in the Alabama game, becoming the 25th player in SDSU history to reach the milestone. She enters Wednesday's matchup at Marquette (Wis.) 24th on the Jackrabbit career scoring list with 1,004 points.
In the most recent statistics for independent players, Vogel ranks fourth in scoring at 14.6 points per game, is eighth in rebounding with an average of 6.2 and stands ninth in free throw shooting at 79.3 percent (46-of-58).
