Five Jacks named to academic team
Five South Dakota State University women's basketball players have been honored for their work in the classroom by being named to the Division I Independent All-Academic Team.
Jackrabbits who were named to the squad on Tuesday include:
• Christina Gilbert, Sr., Stillwater, Minn., 3.623 GPA in graphic design;
• Heather Sieler, Sr., Huron, S.D., 3.973 GPA in health promotion;
• Megan Vogel, Jr., St. Peter, Minn., 3.744 GPA in health, physical education and recreation
• Courtney Grimsrud, So., Sisseton, S.D, 3.918 GPA in biology, and
• Andrea Verdegan, So., Glen Flora, Wis., 3.604 GPA in psychology.
SDSU's five selections tied North Dakota State and IPFW for the most among the 10 independent teams. A total of 36 student-athletes were honored, averaging a 3.62 GPA.
To be eligible for the team, which is selected by sports information directors at the member institutions, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility and be a starter or key reserve.
The team was comprised of 15 seniors, 14 juniors and seven sophomores.
