Sieler in line for NCAA honor
Former Jackrabbit basketball player Heather Sieler has been named one of three NCAA Division I independent female student-athletes under consideration for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
A Huron native, Sieler was a four-year starter at point guard for the Jackrabbits, helping lead SDSU to a 98-26 record during her career. A second-team all-Division I Independent selection and Independent Defensive Player of the Year during the 2005-06 season, Sieler finished her career as SDSU’s all-time steals leader with 281. She also ranked sixth in career assists with 445 and sixth with 154 career three-pointers.
Sieler, who graduated this past spring with degree in health promotion, is attending physical therapy school this fall. She earned academic all-Independent honors during the 2005-06 academic year and was later awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
The conference and independent winners will be pared to a list of 10 finalists later this fall. The NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced Oct. 28 in Indianapolis.
Way to go, Heather, another well deserved recognition!
