College women's coach Aaron Johnston, SDSU Basketball
Now in his eighth season as coach of the South Dakota State University women's basketball team, Aaron Johnston has taken the Jackrabbit program through a successful transition into the ranks of NCAA Division I.
The Jackrabbits posted a 19-9 record in the 2005-2006 season - the program's first season playing exclusively against D-I opponents - and narrowly missed a bid to compete in the Women's National Invitational Tournament.
His efforts were recognized nationally, as he earned the Division I Independent Coach of the Year award.
Johnston, a native of Pine Island, Minn., has guided this season's team to a 9-3 record with wins over Southern California, Middle Tennessee State and Big 12 schools Kansas and Colorado.
