I have supported Coach Nagy and the men's program in a multitude of ways and will continue to do so. Criticism will remain part of that support. See it as you would like but don't single me out. I know plenty of other very strong supporters of the program who share the same concerns that I have expressed here. When we meet to discuss future support losses like last night are discussed.

Shoving optmisim down my throat doesn't change what I've witnessed on and off the court the last 5 years. I have stated very clearly that Nagy deserved another year with these players and another year to bring in DI recruits with a full slate of scholarships. This year, in my opinion, is the definitive one. We can afford to go backwards from where we are now.

If my opinions offend you please understand that many people share similar opinions. I'm sorry you choose to see me only as a critic when those who know me much better would tell you that there are few people who support SDSU the institution and Jackrabbit athletics more than I do.

Now, I know its not about me and I can handle that. This forum is an excellent place to decompress and it better not be consider as anymore than that. Coaches coach, players play, fans support the program as they see fit. Last nights result was not unexpected by some. We need to see a better effort going forward, thats for sure.
    Jackmd,

Thanks for clarifying your statement on why you posted, "Nor should they care." I singled your post out for that reason. I'm glad it wasn't meant in the way that I took it. I apologize if offense was taken to my post.

There is nothing wrong with being critical of the program. There are plenty of reasons to be just that. Also, you don't just post negative stuff on here. I check out all the threads and you are one of the real quality posters on here. Heck, we both wouldn't be in the top 10 for reputation on here if we didn't offer up some quality posts.

The fact of the matter is we probably do agree on a lot of things. We do agree that what we saw last night was not good. There needs to be concern. Criticism is a healthy part of that support. It is time for this team to move forward. Progress is what we all want. We all come here to discuss Jackrabbit athletics, and there are plenty of posts from each of us on the negative and positive side. You are correct that it should be taken as nothing more and nothing less than an internet chat forum. A decompression was a good way to put it.

Onward and upward from here and hopefully we can all get some things to be excited about in the near future!

Hopefully, they come out of their closed practice Thursday against the Mavs of UNO looking alright.

As someone who is very, very familiar with USD basketball and who was also at the game last night, USD is way ahead of SDSU in men's basketball this year. This year. Will that stay the same? I doubt it. USD will face some struggles this year I'm sure even though they probably have a more talented squad then last year. It will be harder for them to get the top talent in the area, even though Boots and James are great recruiters. I have no doubt in my mind that eventually, 2 or 3 years from now, SDSU will be back to where they used to be. Or on their way back. Naggy is a very good coach and he will wright the ship.

My thoughts from the game last night were that the Rabbits looked really, really sloppy. Of course that is to be expected with the first game. I'm not to familiar with the roster other then Cordova and Moss but the lanky athletic forward (I think number 23?) def looks like he has skill and had a couple of mismatches off the pick and roll but the guard either wouldn't see it or would throw a terrible pass. #20 looks like he is a pretty good all around player but the guard play in general looked very weak along with the outside shooting. I'll probably be at a lot more games this year so I hope the level of play can improve.

Re: 2008-09 Season about to Tip off

With the exception of the first year of the transition, when the Jacks were woefully undermanned, I've found reason for optimism at the start of each season. Then came problems that have become all too familiar - injuries, off-court stuff, transfers, and more injuries. Sorry, I can't find much reason for hope after the loss to Southwest. It was very discouraging, very disappointing. I'm still a fan, but I'm running low on optimism.

Exhibition game...fine. Want to be "vanilla'...fine. However, the bottom line is that you have to WIN the game. I know it's just exhibition, but it's against SWMSU and they are located in close proximity. If you want to not care about the outcome, then schedule someone that no one has heard of. It's embarrasing to lose to SWMSU and I don't care what the reasons are. IMO if you need to start running offensive sets and playing different defenses the last couple minutes in order to win the game, then that is what is required. It is pathetic to lose to them no matter the circumstance. I was embarrased to be there last night and coach should have been as well. I've defended Nagy over the years, but if he doesn't understand the consequences of last night, then maybe we need to find someon else. Last night was a first impression for folks that may have been season ticket holders. I've talked to many people who aren't sure if they'll go back to watch them play. So, you can say exhibition all you want but it's about marketing a product and nothing about last night "sold" our men's team as a product.

I didn't post last night because I was concerned that I would be too abrasive...maybe I should have waited another day.

I'm dissapointed... When I was in Jr. High- High School the games were so awesome to go to... now.....eeehhhh. Not good. Its going to be hard to turn this culture of losing around.

I can't believe the negativity on this thread. These are young men who are trying to work through things. They cannot help the injuries, they happen to the best of teams. Some of you need to really look inside of yourselves and if you are going to beat the team up already don't even go to the games, they don't need it!!! These guys have come from winning programs. They want to win! No matter what you do or where you start out, it takes time to climb the ladder, it doesn't happen over night. I love this team, and I love coming to Brookings, to their gym to watch, and when my boys are done playing there I will miss it. This is their ride and they want to succeed! I will be behind them win or loose! Promotion or no promotion. This is their job and their moments, and we need to be there, cheering them on,every game. Nobody is perfect and there will be ones to step up and carry the team,we need them, and they will come through. They know success and we all want to go along for the ride. This is the beginning of the season, let's ALL SUPPORT THEM, being positive makes a difference!!!

                    Amen! Great post! Rep points!

This is an internet forum and there are going to be positive and negative things posted. It is very understadable to see the frustration after Mondays game. I can't imagine there is a single fan, administrator, player, or coach that didn't feel that after the game. What matters is what happens next!

Where you are dead on is that these kids need and deserve our support. It is unfortunate if people make a decision to not attend as a result of Monday. There are things that are different this year. There's a new offense, new people in the program, and already they are getting killed by injuries. Those aren't excuses but facts. The team won't use them as excuses. I look forward to watching them grow in this process and we all hope things turn around and major progress is made.

I'll be right there with you cheering the team on!

Being a former Jackrabbit athlete I will always support the players and never question the effort that they are putting out. I agree that the players need fan support through good times and bad. I would also encourage everyone to keep showing up and supporting all of our programs no matter if there are wins and losses. The wins will come eventually, but if the fans abandon the athletes the winning culture will never survive.

I listened to several of the players after the game and they were disappointed in their effort. Many comments about the lack of intensity, being out-hustled on the boards and for loose balls. Why do parents and athletes get so defensive when someone points out their deficiencies these days? If someone doesn't tell you the effort isn't what is expected how do you know you need to improve?

I'm tired of people taking offense when a poor performance is recognized and called what it is. Don't perform on a stage if you don't want the criticism and don't look for praise if you can't handle the critique. No one forces these athletes to sign for and accept scholarship money.

If you can't recognize what I'm trying to say I don't know how to make it any more clear. Being critical of the poor performance on Monday is not the same as not being supportive. I teach medical students every day and the worse thing you can do is never give a negative evaluation. Heck, that applies to my peers at the hospital and clinic as well.

Not to be rude because I like your posts catchem. but what winning culture? We haven't had a winning culture in the past 5 years? I know it takes time... but we have to win games to have a winning culture. Sine the move to D1 we have not had that. I really do hope and wish that this team turns it around. I believe we have the drive but we have to find ways to finish games. Then our winning tradition will be restored.

How can you judge a team when 3 players were on the bench hurt, Clint sits out most of the second half (probably with an injury and not wanting it to get worse), and 2 more who aren't able to play until Jan.? The players heard enough about the intensity from the coaches after the 'exhibition' game and I'm sure practice so far this week. Then they have to hear about posts on the SDSU "fans" forum about how horrible they are. I could say more but a lot of it would need to be censored so I'll stop now. Let the dinged rep points commence (like I pay attention to them anyways).
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

I may be reading into this post, but I sense that bbalggc is a parent of one of the SDSU roster members. I would think that some of what we read here is no doubt painful and for that I appologize.

SDSU has had success more at the D2 level, but its a work in progress at the next level, where dollars are more of an influence than the average fan at SDSU realized. ie the Big Dance, dollar contract with CBS. Getting the right recruits that are the right fit takes time.

I had a chance to meet a couple of the players at the Endowment banquet held last September at the Performing Arts Center. I was impressed. They were just nice young college guys to this SS recipent.

The most important thing to remember is that the roster members are here to get an education as well as participate.

In my opinion, the SDSU community has given our student athletes a bit of celebrity status, and maybe they are, but we seem to compare them with the Timberwolve roster, where people are making millions of dollars and fans who pay plenty to see the Timberwolves play, perhaps have a point in criticing their performance, but my gosh, the SDSU men's bb program is made up of college kids who have parents, brothers and sisters.
We are taking this way to serious.

Losing an exhibition game to SWMU with only 9 out of 16 people dressed, is not a shame nor is a reason to get all bent out of shape. Give our coach and staff a chance to get going. Sure there is probably free Schawns ice cream in Marshall with their exhibition win, but do we really care? I dont.

The problem is not with the players. They seem to be good guys who are also serious about their education. We just dont seem to have enough Div I talent. That is the coaching staffs fault and is why we need a change. there is no point is being like an ostrich anymore and denying the reality of the state of the team. Things will NOT get better with the current staff.
