Yackley wasn't a walkon in the true sense of the word. He was recruited just as any other player, but if I remember correctly he already had his education paid for completely by other means so didn't need to use up an athletic scholarship.

      You are correct.    ;D

Mackenzie Casey & Blake Yackley are the non-traditional

Ryan Hoogeveen is the invitee and is red shirting

      Troy Wipf is the traditional

From what I can tell they all seem to be doing a fine job for State given their talent levels and realistic expectations.  It seems to me that our Walk-on program is strong.

      Go State!

The football winter workouts are very organized and at least when I was there (now creeping past 10 years ago) the winter workouts were the hardest workouts I've ever been apart of.  I've never been in better shape than after those winter workouts.  Also, after those practices, we tended to have impromptu O v. D pass skel workouts so actual football skills were being worked on as well.  For pure football workouts, playing basketball provides minimal benefits.  I imagine that is why Coach Nagy was turned down this year if he indeed asked a couple football players to join the team.

There really is not much sense in bringing in a couple of the football players to play limited roles off the bench. Their help would be minimal and squeaking out a couple of more wins is not worth their time or the basketball team's time. Their are no mystical football players or walk-ons that are going to join the team this year and turn everything around. We are not losing games beacause of depth. So why even talk about? There seems to be many more things that we could all act like we know what we are talking about. We do not have a very good football team right now, potentially we do in the future, but even that will be difficult. Especially, when you can count on 2-4 players leaving the team for various reasons every year.

Bluehat, you seem to have all of this "inside" information, but you never have any names?? Can you back up this "understanding" with a name???

Because the real reason all along is that he "wasn't a bench player, coach". The real reason he left is because a young man decided 4 games into his redshirt freshman season that he was not playing enough. A rash decision by a kid who happened to fall right into the age where a majority of people have a tendency to let emotions make way too many decisions. Just so happens his decision had to do with playing basketball for SDSU. Anyone who comes on this board and says there is some alterior motive involved better bring some serious "sources" or I'm calling bunk. I'm talking proper citations like you're writing a research paper.

The young man that will be walking on second semester is Brandon DeBoer from Huron High and Jamestown College. He is the younger brother of Sarita who played for the women's team. I believe he can fill a role as a practice player while still growing and developing his basketball skills. Welcome to the Jacks Brandon and good luck.

It's definitely better to hear about young men wanting to join the Jacks rather than the reverse. Thanks, Brandon . . . make Huron proud!

Check out Terry's blog...from what he has to say no one will be joining the team this season.  Once again, it would be best to know for certain before posting things like this.  For as good as it looks when a person is able to provide inside information on this board, it looks much worse when that information turns out to be false.

This is just a discussion board. I see nothing wrong with a little educated speculation from insiders about walk-ons and other personnel issues. It helps keep fan interest fueled. Board readers know the difference between fan postings and official university news releases (which might not ever announce a new walk-on). I have no inside knowledge on the possibility, but based on what I've read here from generally good sources, I wouldn't be surprised to see another walk-on sitting on the bench in a couple more weeks.
                              This space for lease.

I was told by Sweeter there would not be any news release regarding walk-ons. There might be a news release on Bob's departure.
