If we were pursuing him at all, Bjorklund's out of the mix. He just committed to NDSU.

All the press releases indicate SDSU also had an offer out to Bjorklund, but assume that Dykstra is first in line for that remaining scholarship once it becomes available. It sure would have been nice to have a big strong front line player like Bjorklund.

        Here is the link to the Fargo Forum story for today;

        http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/244364/

What is not unclear in the article is that Bjorklund chose NDSU because of their agriculture school, over SDSU and UNI. I think we still have a ag school, but not sure exactly how we match up with NDSU in terms of course offerings. The choice has to be very personal and can credit the young man for thinking about his future.

I can't help but think SDSU was very much in the running here, and maybe Bjorklund's choice was a hair splitting one. Its been made and I wish Mr. Bjorklund the best at NDSU.

I wouldn't exactly call UNI an ag school.

However that whole, 'because he's interested in a career in ag, naturally he preferred NDSU over SDSU, no explanation needed' seems a bit odd. Of course the article wasn't written with a view toward SDSU fans/alumni

Maybe it's a major NDSU offers that SDSU doesn't--?

Does anybody know if we really did have an offer out to Bjorkland? I'm thinking we might have offered a while ago but it doesn't seem like he was really on our radar recently.

I can't testify that SDSU did indeed have an offer, but anyone interested in agriculture would be on SDSU radar to my way of thinking. I think back and we have gotten quite a few because of a Dairy Manufacturing major. Also Ben Beran was an animal science major. I tend to think we were trying to get him, but I really dont know. It would be unusual if we were not after him. My guess is that SDSU made a home visit and possibly offered, but as with Nat Wolters, this young man backed off to look at his options.

Call me crazy, from eveything I have read lately SDSU will have one scholarship available and it looks like we have an offer to Dkystra the last offers before that went to Hemestra and Gruis (one scholarship - two kids), and Hemestra took it.

So NDSU has an ag college and SDSU has an ag college but NDSU has a scholarship for the kid and SDSU doesn't. Not too hard a decision for the young man. Go to NDSU have your school paid for, go to SDSU walk-on and pay your own way. So Bjorkland is a Bison seems simple enough to me. Good luck to him.

It might seem simple to you, but it isn't true. SDSU may have moved on from Bjorklund--after it became clear that they weren't going to get him. There's no shame in that, it happens to every team all the time.

That's what you would like to think. Let me see Dykstra or Bjorklund? I think we have the right offer out there for our remaining scholarship! Maybe Bjorklund understood Dykstra is going to get that scholarship if he wants it and he decided to take a sure thing and move on, no shame in that it happens with recruits all the time

There are others more up on this stuff than me, but I think Bjorklund was NDSU's top remaining 2010 recruiting target. We seem to have others lined up for 2010.

Seems to me that NDSU and SDSU are both having great success in recruiting these days. Bodes well for the future of the Summit League, I think.
                        Holy nutmeg!

Many Bison fans like Kermit have to rationalize every recruiting decision whether they win or lose especially if SDSU or UND is involved.

Total speculation or do you know something you aren't posting?

Well, SDSU has been listed as Bjorklund's second choice behind NDSU due to the 'ag school' for quite a while--since (IIRC) before Wolters committed or about that time--last time I looked at the whole recruiting thing.

It looks like the Bjorklund ship sailed a while ago--and not strictly because of athletic possibilities at NDSU.

                              --

Regarding whether or not one school beats the other at 'recruiting battles', well, NDSU got Schultenover and SDSU didn't, so.................

Maybe sometimes that is the case but what kermit said is dead on here. Bjorklund had been hoping to land an offer from Minnesota and it has been well known for months that NDSU was his second choice. He seems to like everything about the school. Like Kermit said it happens, sometimes things just click between a recruit and a certain school. I suppose it doesn't hurt to have a coaching staff that has been after him for sometime.
