GDT: UND vs SDSU 2pm FB&T SLN "Senior Day"

THe Fighting Hawks(10-4) come to Brookings 1/2 game behind the Tommies(10-3) who are in 2nd place. UND was a preseason 8th place pick. RS-Fr Uelman & seniors King & Anderson lead the scoring. They will average 77 ppg. The Jackrabbits have struggled to defend the home court this season as they have lost 3 conference games in FB&T. Haertle has shown some good play as he has worked back into the rotation. The Jackrabbit defense cannot take any possessions off to allow the FHawks to go on runs. The Jackrabbits should get more 3s to fall today for the win. Go Jacks!!

UND shooting like they did the last two times they beat us. I really don’t want to drop 3 in a row to them but if nothing changes defensively that’ll be the case.

Definitely glad to see the Jacks get the win, and it was cool seeing the Rozebooms in the crowd backing the Jacks.

This team is improving. We may be surprised here. Before I analyze the game (the radio call on the internet wasn't plagued by the problems it had the last several games I heard), I want to ask about tie breakers. If we win out we are at worst tied with South Dakota and may tied with Denver. If we win out, we will have split with both of those.

I have been critical of this team but several things are getting better. I spoke of attitudes some time ago. That problem is gone. I spoke of mid range jumpers, but Coach Peterson wants them driving to earn fouls and it worked today. These players have improved their foul shooting (which was not good) and won the game at the foul line..., unless you claim rebounding won this game. North Dakota shot 52% which is not good. If we can tighten our defense, we might surprise a lot of people.

If you look at the roster, only two "young players" played. (I define a "young player" as two years or less at the college level. Thus Squires and Jackson are "young players" while Sayler and Wilkinson are veterans. Coach is leaning on his veterans. Mr. Haertle has shown a lot of good things. The five SDs are playing well, and of course Mr. Jackson is playing well. It remains to improve mental toughness.

Mr. Mors was sensational. He was the player of the game.

            Go Jacks

Tense fan experience watching on TV...very good game. The arena was loud! Great home-game finish by Mors.

I dont want to be making excuses, but I wonder if the coaches / team feel like I do about Eli King? he shoots 3s at 29.6% for the season. today he goes 4 for 7. that is 57%+, almost double his season average. my gut feeling is that if you look at his career numbers, you would see an even worse 3pt %, but multiple games shooting well from deep vs the Jacks

why does he not simply meditate before EVERY game and imagine his opponent in blue and yellow with JACKS across the chest? sorry but this is a player who is not a shooter! he is making just a hair over ONE three per game. he has scored OVER 70% of his points on the season, and my guess is that is even higher for his career, on shots inside of 15 feet.

the correct defensive strategy is DONT let him in the lane. make him shoot from deep. yet, he continues to make that hurt. sometimes you have to tip your hat to your opponent! today he scored 12 points from behind the arc. if he scores his normal 3 or even 6, from behind the arc, the Jacks have a lot of breathing room. Eli is a LOT like Mors. he plays so so hard. also both are coaches kids and grew up around sports

good game from the 3 senior starters today, Mors, King, and Anderson. their time is coming to an end and they played like they dont want to lose!

TON of hustle from Mors today, but that is not new for him as a Senior. he has played basically every game since he has been here like it was his last game. he has not been the superstar some people predicted or hoped for, but he has been an awesome example of what you want a student athlete to be!! GREAT person! Great student! Great teammate!! Thank you for everything!! I REALLY REALLY hope we see him as a Jacks coach next year!! regardless where he goes, I have nothing but the best wishes for him!!

The Jackrabbits came out ahead of the 50/50 balls today. They had a defensive lapse in the first half and recovered from that problem.

JSD loses at Oral Roberts, so we both sit at 6-8 heading into the final week. The Yotes host Omaha and us. We play at KC and in Vermillion.
