    Re: Utah State

USU had not lost a home tournament game since 1971. The Jacks' high ceiling was on display in the second half when the lead quickly grew to 15. Marshall and Parks were both suddenly hot and they picked up the tempo. More of that will win a lot of games in the Summit.

Those last 5 minutes plus were really tough to watch. Lot of blame to go around for giving up a 15 point lead, but proud to see how tough we played in overtime. I really thought Horstman hurt us down the stretch with his decisions. Glad to see Severyn get an opportunity!

        Re: Utah State

To be fair, during the last 5:21 of regulation USU played some very tough defense not allowing the Jacks to get the ball inside. When the Jacks did there was not an opportunity for a good shot. Therefor some ugly three attempts. Also some no calls on slap and steals and tie ups by USU. That afro headed guyfor USU was always looking at the refs and his mates when called for a foul and doing that " that was a foul, they called that a foul" look

Frustrating game, but a win nonetheless. You have to give the team credit for toughness after that win. I like this team a lot. There is quality depth. They may not play 10 every game, but there are enough capable guys on the bench that somebody will step up (Severyn last night, for example.) Marshall is going to be an all-conference player. Parks will settle into his role. Bittle and Horstman are tough guys. Larson is a beast. Devine is coming on. What's not to like about seven wins in a row?
          Holy nutmeg!

We have a really good team here. Winning three in a row AWAY FROM FROST with the team adjusting to playing with Marshall is incredibly impressive. When watching you could tell last night our guys are still getting comfortable in roles but our athleticism is overcoming that right now. This team is FAR more athletic and physical than our teams over the last few years. Two top 20 rip road games in Utah and uni coming up. I don't expect wins but would feel really good if we play two competitive games. Time to get excited about this teams potential.

Is there a limit to # of players who can travel to away games? No Josh White? Would be nice to have Daum travel too even though he redshirted.

                Re: Utah State

The games may have been ugly, but going up into the mountains and getting 3 wins in 3 days with west coast refs is both damn tough and impressive. Blowing the 15 point lead last night was tough to watch, but on the flipside we did a good job ourself of overcoming an 11-2 deficit and looking like poop to fighting back for a big lead. At the end of the day, our boys are stepping up with the game on the line. Their is a lot of potential for some ugly ballgames this year between SDSU, NDSU, and USD (I haven't really followed any other Summit teams so far)...all three of us seem to be playing some sloppy ball right now.

                  Re: Utah State

The Jacks got in foul trouble early. The foul situation probably added to the Jacks' hesitant, lead-protecting style in the closing minutes of regulation. They came out strong again in OT. Kind of an ugly win, considering the 15-point lead they lost. But I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day. There's a lot of depth and a big up side to this team.

                    Re: Utah State

We are mastering the "ugly win" and I think it's a testament to what this team can become. Disagree with Marshall as the MVP of the tournament. I'd go with Parks for sure or even Larson. I was hard on Parks as a PG out of position but really love him at the 2. Cody was good 2 out of 3 games. The thing I like most about this team is their tenacity and their ability to fight through adversity. The foul count on the Jacks was ridiculous but they didn't quit. Home cooking on full display against USU and still a victory. I will say this on the improvement side, this team has to shoot ft's more consistently. Leaving way too many points on the floor. Those are free points boys, take em while you get em!!

                        From TV today: http://www.argusleader.com/story/ter...rney/20727265/

The Jackrabbits (9-3) have matched the best 12-game start to a season in their Division I history. That started in 2004. The 2012-13 team that reached the NCAA tournament also started 9-3.
Also, the ongoing seven-game win streak is the longest since that season.

SDSU shot just 38.1 percent, 35.2 percent and 37.3 percent in its three games in Logan. However, it didn't allow an opponent to shoot better than 38.2 percent. Also, the Jacks limited foes to 11 of 41 from 3-point range whereas they made 19 3s.
"We're not even playing good – that's the deal," coach Scott Nagy said. "I think everybody knows it. We're not shooting the ball well. Defense flat out won it for us in all three games."

If the goal is to win the tourney and get to the dance, I'd rather have a weak conference and dance than murders row.
