Think bigger folks. Sioux Falls and SDSU have made this league what it is. Expect that the league will continue to get and exceed the support it does now. 10 teams, all in for tourney 1 and 2 get byes to quarterfinal. Start Friday and finish Tuesday.

Remember back to the first year we were fully division I eligible and there was concern that we might not make the tournament if we finished in 9th or 10th. We finished in 7th in the end. If you look back when there were 10 teams I believe in every case there were only 8teams in the tournament. Same thing happens in other sports. A couple years ago, we hosted the soccer tournament but didn't make the tournament. In some sports only 4 teams make the tourney.

This is the way that most but not all conferences run their tournaments. It is my understanding that in most cases the cost for the extra rounds outweigh the extra income.

I wouldn't be totally shocked to see a 10-team Summit League (should that occur in the relatively near future) bring all 10 to Sioux Falls and have the bottom four teams play themselves into the standard 8-team bracket. I would similarly be not-shocked if a larger-than-8-school SL continues to leave teams finishing below #8 home. Part of it depends, I suppose, on who the members of that hypothetical larger Summit League might be.

In a 10 Team league there are no byes. #9 an# 10 just don't make the tournament

Certainly an option, but why would u even consider it if you are the Summit League? By eliminating the bottom teams you are simply giving up the revenue from 4 additional tournament games and the associated all session passes that go with it. That would be brutally dumb.

Filbert you will get no eye roll and you will like it!

But I heard that with two you get eye roll!

Certainly an option, but why would u even consider it if you are the Summit League? By eliminating the bottom teams you are simply giving up the revenue from 4 additional tournament games and the associated all session passes that go with it. That would be brutally dumb.

From a fan's perspective, I think the champ should have to win a minimum of 3. That's what the madness is all about. I just think getting a bye into a semifinal, at any level of sports, is fundamentally wrong.

If the Summit goes to 10, the byes only get you to the quarterfinals. I'm ok with that.

I would be wholly in favor of a bye for both the 1 and 2 seeds. Makes the conference season that much more important. If the Summit gets to 10 teams they have to do this.

I didn't say I wanted that. But you seemed miffed about a team only having to win two games when in reality that team proved it over the entire season.

Kind of tough to avoid the two-games-to-the-NCAA-tournament 'problem' of a conference tournament when you don't have eight tournament-eligible teams in your conference. Basketball doesn't do double-elimination tournaments.

You dance with the ones what brung ya.

I understand there was no choice for this year, but it just feels cheap from an overall fan/tournament experience.
