Jacks Dump Briar Cliff 75-37
South Dakota State scored the first 11 points of the game and went on to defeat Briar Cliff 75-37 in women’s basketball Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena.
Briar Cliff didn’t get its first points until Betsy Graf hit a layup off a drive with 12:26 left in the half, and the Chargers had just three field goals in the first half as SDSU built a 39-7 lead at intermission.
Four players scored in double figures for the Jacks with Sarita DeBoer leading the way with 15. Shannon Schlagel had a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double while Christina Gilbert added 13 points and Heather Sieler 11.
Dana Lehner and Danielle Hemmer had 10 points each for Briar Cliff.
SDSU shot 42 per cent for the game and had a 48-32 rebounding advantage. In the first half, BCU made just 3 of 25 field goal attempts, 12 per cent; was out-rebounded 29-17, and had 14 turnovers.
SDSU is now 14-6 on the season and will play at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon. Briar Cliff is 10-13 and has a Wednesday game at Dakota Wesleyan.
