Sending horses to college ...

When a nonprofit organization and a university got together last year, they came up with an idea that would have positive results for both of them.
SDSU and DoubleHP have joined forces to send some horses to college, and two of the new recruits are already training in hopes of making the school team.
The "horse scholarships" that resulted from the collaboration means that some animals that may have had a tough beginning will be getting a whole new lease on life.
Megan McGee, South Dakota State University equestrian team head coach, got the ball rolling last year (or the horse trotting, so to speak) when she brought in several donations for a fundraiser for Horse Help Providers, Inc., better known as DoubleHP.
DoubleHP is a nonprofit organization based in Crooks that exists for the purposes of horse rescue, adoption and education.
McGee got to talking with DoubleHP founder and president Darci Hortness about how the two programs could benefit each other. (read more)
