Man, I was just throwing out one of the oldest, most over used sports cliches.
Math makes my brain hurt.

And I believe JackDaniel is correct in that we are just trying to get into the playoffs and need to have one of the top 8 records or more total votes if there is a tie and we are near the bottom. We need to get as many votes as we can, since we trail a number of teams in total votes so far.

Re: Capital One Bowl
Top 8 teams in playoffs....does that mean evryone in the playoffs start even again ? If so,& it's one vs one after playoffs begin, that's when everyone should give a major effort.I assume the playoffs are 8,4 ,2,champ format.I'm not saying we don't have to give an effort to win in "the reg season", but all we really have to do for "the reg season" is make the cut for the "playoffs".

The top 4: Jack, Bearcat (2), Bill (3) and Mike (4) are all behind. Mike is only 700 behind Big Red, but Big Red is 5th in the standings, so you have a 4 vs. 5 going on. Consider that the other three you named as leading are ranked 8th (Boomer), 9th (Butch), 10th (Bucky...leading by 4200 votes), and 12th (Sebastian...leading by 2300 votes).
As for suggestions we vote against all the 2-1 candidates, I am voting for several of them, when they are trailing significantly, because I don't see a lot of sense in adding to the "total votes received" for those mascots we may end up in a tie with. Anyway, it doesn't matter "why", but it means trailing by 1700 is a "big" problem for us.

In this format, being on top is bad news...note the four top winners so far are trailing in their races.

I don't think it's 'us against the world'.
I think it's a coordinated effort by WKU and/or Navy fans.
Why?
If Jack were being targeted because he was the sole undefeated mascot, there wouldn't be a similarly huge spread anywhere else, but there is.
Bucky, Boomer, Butch and Sebastian also have similarly commanding leads over their opponents; Mike, Superfrog, Bearcat & Testudo.
There's no gigantic lead in the Bill/Big Red contest.... Seems something odd is afoot.

Jackrabbit is down by more than 700 votes. He is no longer flying under the radar and Hairy Dawg fans are being joined by those behind us in the standings.
Get the word out. Its going to be a tough win this week, and from here on out I suspect.

Put in about 40 minutes of voting--don't think I closed the gap much.

Crazy mad props to Jacks#1Fan. If I could figure out how to give rep points, I would...although perhaps not for the right reasons. Anyhow, I thought I was going above and beyond. Well done and thanks!
Once I saw how close it was this morning, I wouldn't even click on "Schedule" again to check totals because it ate up important voting time. I voted while at a coffee hose show Friday night. I voted while at the bar Saturday (casual setting). The person next to me cast a few votes, too. I realize this is kind of a silly deal, and people rightly say I'm obsessed with it...but it's kind of great and I love winning!
We are a few hundred votes down now...at least that many, actually. Everybody is voting against us, it's fair to say, because we're in first. We'll see how the next few days shake down. We can't let the Dog get too far ahead. Keep urging and bugging and asking people to VOTE JACK. Early and often, baby. Early and often!
Anybody know how NDSU fared last year?
Thanks, everybody, for taking time to vote and for asking others to vote! Also, there was good Vote Jack promotion at the game this week. Good to see.
I BACK JACK!!! (Note to SDSU-types...have pins made with Jacks photo and "I back Jack!" on them and pass them out at the next game. Shirts, too! (I know, I know...it all costs money.)
