    2026 Recruiting Class

All committed recruits signed yesterday. There was one surprise flip of a DB previously committed to ISUb. We didn't have any recruits flip. Here's the JI rundown: https://t.co/hGthYRnX8S

It's a solid class considering the circumstances, with a mix of high end and development talent. Its a heavy skill position class (2 QBs, lots of WRs and DBs) with the exception of RB. I would have liked to see a little more emphasis on the lines but I trust the staff knows the teams needs more than me. It seems like we won more recruiting battles against NDSU than we lost (although NDSU has an impressive class) and as always, we had our pick of SD kids. We did have a rare head to head late recruiting loss with USD for a late rising lineman out of the Twin Cities (Jake Gau).

The staff has offers out now for players in the portal and JUCO ranks, with an apparent focus on the defensive backfield. The recruiting class is a good start to rebuilding depth but it will take a few cycles and I would think that the staff will be hitting the portal hard for at least another year beyond this.

The coaching staff can be more surgical in their approach in the portal, as opposed to last winter where they just needed bodies. There is a tremendous amount of experienced talent returning, assuming we don't have major losses to the portal. You mentioned DB's, the other position that doesn't have a lot of experience returning is the RB room. We have the 3 freshmen who have played plus Begeman. And a couple of freshmen who redshirted, and Quin Renfro who seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. We don't appear to have a RB with breakaway type speed to get outside. It would be great to add one or two of those.

After Jimmy left it seemed like the O-line recruits were the position group least affected, so I feel good about them. In an interview during the year DJ said this is the best scout team offense he has every had. Take that for what its worth.

Minnesota State Moorhead DL Ashton Sayre commits out of the portal. 30 travels 1.5 sacks this year for the Dragons. 1-2 years eligibility left.

Another missing piece is special teams. Stader is done. Is Harrington the guy? I'd think we'd be looking for a PK in the portal too.

Was there any kind of recruiting recap with coaches? There usually is and most teams did it this year.

Saw on social media Jimmy has been recruiting one of our I kickers already so sadly we may need to fill that too. Lots of positions to recruit hard but yes, special teams for sure.

I have always thought punters have a difficult decision if they hope to play in the NFL. Are they better off playing for a bad team where they will have more opportunities to show off their skill?

I do not do social media. curious if you could explain a little? how exactly is he recruiting Pelham? my understanding is that coaches cannot communicate with players from other teams unless they have entered the portal, no? is that wrong? or did Pelham go into the portal? or is Jimmy openly cheating now? I will leave it at that

Jimmy didn’t follow the rules a year ago, I wouldn’t anticipate him to start now. Iowa St fan posted that a Pelham family member told them Jimmy had reached out. Could be false of course but sounded legitimate.

Edit: sounds like it was Ryan Harrington, not Pelham.

He’s bound and determined to just burn the bridge completely to the ground (if he hasn’t already).

I just find it funny that we keep hearing more and more stories like this(Pelham), yet the talking heads go on social media and say the fans shouldn't be mad at Jimmy. At this point there is nothing he can do to change the opinion I have of him from the last 12 months.

Teams were recruiting tucker kraft, he mentioned something to that effect that he had to tell them he wasn't leaving sdsu.
